General Weather Overview

The climate in Querétaro can be characterised as temperate and semi-arid, with comfortable temperatures throughout most of the year. The city does not experience drastic temperature fluctuations, making it attractive to visit at practically any time. Average annual temperatures range from a pleasant 15°C to a warm 22°C, with daytime highs reaching 30°C in the hottest months, and nighttime lows dropping to 7-8°C during the cool period.

There are two distinct seasons in Querétaro. The dry season usually lasts from November to April. During these months, rainfall is virtually non-existent, days are predominantly sunny, and the air temperature is very comfortable, especially from January to March. The rainy season falls between May and October, with the highest amount of precipitation and rainy days observed from June to September. July is the month with the highest number of days with precipitation. Despite this, even in the rainy season, the total amount of rainfall remains relatively low, and rains often take the form of short showers, after which the sun comes out again.

Temperature

The climate in Querétaro is characterised by pleasant temperatures throughout most of the year, making it an attractive destination for travel. The annual temperature progression is quite smooth, although warmer and cooler periods can be distinguished. The hottest months are usually April and May, when the average daytime temperature reaches its peak, and maximum values can rise to 29-30°C. The coolest months are considered to be December and January, with average temperatures around 15°C, while nighttime lows can drop to 7-8°C.

The summer months in Querétaro, roughly from June to August, offer warm weather. Average daytime temperatures during this period hover around 25-27°C, while nights bring pleasant coolness with temperatures around 14-15°C. Winter, covering December, January, and February, is mild and comfortable here. During the day, the thermometer usually shows 22-25°C, allowing for enjoyable walks, although nights can be quite cool, with temperatures dropping to 7-9°C. It is important to note that the winter months are also the driest.

One of the distinctive features of Querétaro's climate is the significant daily temperature fluctuations. The difference between daytime highs and nighttime lows can be quite palpable, especially in the dry season (from November to April), when it often reaches 15-17°C. This means that even after a very warm day, the evening and night can be cool. In summer, during the rainy season (from June to September), these fluctuations smooth out somewhat but remain noticeable. Travellers should take this feature into account when planning their wardrobe, bringing along clothes that can be easily combined.

Precipitation

In Querétaro, there is a clearly defined seasonality of precipitation, which divides the year into a dry season with minimal rainfall and a wet season when it rains more often. Understanding these cycles will help you better plan your trip.

The dry season in Querétaro lasts approximately from November to April. During these months, precipitation is extremely rare. January, February, March, April, November, and December are characterised by minimal rainfall, often at the level of 0 mm. For example, in January, on average, there is not a single rainy day, and in the other months of the dry season, the number of days with precipitation ranges from one to three. This is the ideal time to visit if you prefer sunny and dry weather.

The wet season usually begins in May and continues until October. The peak of precipitation falls on the summer months and early autumn. September is the wettest month with an average rainfall of about 5 mm, followed by June, July, and August, receiving approximately 4 mm each. The frequency of rain increases significantly during this period: in July there can be up to 19 rainy days, in August – 16, and in September – 15. Despite the frequency, the total amount of precipitation remains relatively small, indicating frequent but, as a rule, not too heavy or prolonged rains. Snowfalls are not characteristic of Querétaro due to the warm climate.

What to Pack

When planning a trip to Querétaro, it is worth noting that the weather here is generally very pleasant, but with noticeable temperature fluctuations throughout the day and between seasons, which may be accompanied by a light breeze. The key to a comfortable journey is layering your clothing, which will allow you to adapt to changing conditions. Regardless of the time of year, be sure to bring comfortable shoes for walking along the city's charming streets, sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses, as the sun in Mexico is strong.

From November to April, dry weather prevails in Querétaro. Days are usually warm and sunny, especially from February to April, when the maximum temperature can reach +25°C to +30°C. However, mornings and evenings, especially in the winter months (December-January), can be quite cool, with temperatures around +8°C. Therefore, you will need light items for the day (T-shirts, shirts) and something warmer for the evening — a sweater, fleece, or light jacket. From May to October, and especially intensively from June to September, a period with more frequent precipitation sets in. Although the total amount of rainfall is small, there are significantly more rainy days. The temperature remains comfortable, averaging around +20°C to +22°C. During this period, do not forget a light waterproof jacket or a compact umbrella. Clothing made from breathable fabrics will help you feel comfortable.
