For those moving within Mozambique, a key departure point often becomes Chimoio, located to the south. The trip from there takes about 5–6 hours, covering a distance of nearly 400 kilometres through quite picturesque terrain. Roads on these routes generally have paved surfaces, but travellers should allow extra time for possible delays and stops along the way.

Travelling by car to Tete allows you to plan your own schedule and enjoy the views of the Zambezi Valley. The shortest route leads from the Malawian city of Blantyre: the distance of approximately 170 km can be covered in 3–4 hours. The route from the capital of Malawi, Lilongwe, is noticeably longer — about 360 km, which will require around 5–6 hours behind the wheel.

If you are travelling within Mozambique, it is most convenient to arrive from Chimoio. The distance between the cities is about 390 km, and the travel time usually does not exceed 6 hours. For those who do not plan to rent a car, booking an intercity taxi is possible, however, the price should be discussed with the driver before the journey begins.
