Since there is no airport on the island itself, a flight will only be the first part of your journey. It is most convenient to fly to the nearest city, Duqm, located on the mainland, or choose the capital's airport in Muscat, which receives more international flights.

Flying via Sohar is also an option, though it is located significantly further from the crossing point. From any chosen airport, you will have to continue the journey by land, as the region's airports have good connections to the highways leading to the coast.

Railway connection to Masirah island, as well as throughout the country in general, is currently absent. Tourists will not be able to get here by train, as there are no stations on the island itself nor in the nearest mainland cities, such as Duqm or Muscat.

To travel around this region of Oman, it is recommended to consider alternative modes of transport. The main methods of transportation remain cars and intercity buses connecting major settlements with the coast.

There may not be direct bus services directly to the island's resort zones, but there is an option to reach the ferry crossing via intercity transport. Usually, buses depart from major transport hubs, such as Muscat, following the coast towards Shannah port.

We recommend checking the current schedule and route availability with local carriers in advance before traveling to Masirah. Traveling by bus is a budget-friendly way to see the desert landscapes of the Sultanate, although it will take significantly more time compared to traveling by private vehicle.

Traveling by car is the most popular way to reach the crossing to the island. The shortest route leads from the city of Duqm: you will have to cover about 319 km, which will take approximately 4.6 hours on the road along scenic routes.

If you are departing from the capital, the road from Muscat covering 514 km will require about 6.5 hours of driving. Travelers starting from the city of Sohar should count on a long journey of almost 677 km (about 8 hours). Renting a car or booking a taxi will ensure comfort and freedom of movement in this region.

A trip to Masirah island promises to be an unforgettable adventure if you prepare properly for local specifics. This corner of Oman requires respect for traditions and attention to detail when planning your journey.

1. Clothing and Climate. Given the hot climate and strong winds, choose light, breathable clothing made from natural fabrics. Out of respect for local traditions, shoulders and knees must be covered, especially outside of beach zones.
2. Transport. The best way to move around the island is a rented SUV (4x4). Many beautiful beaches and natural attractions are accessible only via dirt roads.
3. Finances. The currency is the Omani Rial. Major hotels accept cards, but for small shops, gas stations, and paying for the ferry, make sure to carry cash.
4. Health. The sun here is very active, so high SPF cream, a head covering, and a constant supply of drinking water are mandatory companions for a tourist. There are pharmacies in the main settlement, but it is better to bring specific medicines with you.
5. Communication. The official language is Arabic. In the tourism sector, many speak English, but learning a couple of greeting phrases in Arabic will earn you special appreciation from the locals.
6. Etiquette. Omanis are very hospitable. It is customary to greet people when entering a room. Avoid public displays of affection and loud conversations in public places.
7. Photography. It is strictly advised not to photograph local women and government facilities without permission. Men can only be photographed with their personal consent.
8. Turtle Season. If you are planning a trip in summer, be especially careful on the beaches at night — this is the nesting time for sea turtles, which must not be disturbed by flashes of light or noise.
