This is not just an entertainment zone, but a specially protected natural area where natural reservoirs framed by granite cliffs sit alongside well-kept alleys and vibrant flower beds. Here, in the heart of Russia, nature meets history: the park was founded back in 1934 and has since preserved an atmosphere of hospitality and comfort.

Visitors are drawn to the wonderful combination of peaceful contemplative rest and active fun. Modern mechanical rides, a developed infrastructure, and proximity to the city center make the park a mandatory stop on the itinerary of any tourist wanting to feel the true character of the city.

What to Do

Everyone can find something to enjoy in the park: from thrilling rides on mechanical attractions to peaceful nature observation. Families with children typically choose the entertainment zone, which features carousels and slides for all ages. Active lifestyle enthusiasts will appreciate the proximity to the stadium and numerous well-maintained paths perfect for running or rollerblading.

\n\n

Special charm is added by the natural quarries and the "Kommunar" pond with a city beach, where you can relax by the water in summer. It’s a pleasure to set up a small picnic in the shade of ancient pines or simply walk while breathing in the fresh coniferous air. In winter, the park is transformed: one of the city's largest ice rinks is set up here, turning the area into a true winter wonderland.

\n\n

Don't forget to look for cultural and historical sites, such as the children's railway or the spots where a summer cinema and a parachute tower used to stand. Today, the park regularly hosts vibrant festivals, carnivals, and holidays that fill the space with music and a great mood.

Getting There

Located at 45 Kommuny St, 454080, the park is in close proximity to the city center. You can get here by public transport: a historic tram line, operating since 1936, runs to the Dynamo Stadium and the main entrance. Numerous buses and minibuses also serve this direction.

\n\n

If you prefer walking, the route from the city center through the picturesque city forest takes about 20–30 minutes. For active travelers, this is also an excellent route for a bike ride.

\n\n

Those traveling by car will find it convenient to park in the dedicated lots at the park entrance or on adjacent streets. Thanks to a well-developed road network and proximity to major city thoroughfares, a taxi ride from the center or the railway station will take no more than 10–15 minutes.

History & Facts

The history of this place began at the end of the 19th century, when a dense pine forest became a favorite recreation spot for citizens. However, the area only received the official status of the first city park in the 1930s. The project was developed by the Moscow branch of Goszelenstroy and underwent public discussion before its grand opening on May 18, 1934.

\n\n

A landmark event occurred in 1937, when a massive Christmas carnival with an ice rink and circus performances was held here. The park developed continuously: sports facilities like the Dynamo Stadium were built, and unique attractions for that time, including a parachute tower, were planned.

\n\n

The park received its current name on April 14, 1961. Just two days after Yuri Gagarin's legendary flight, the city executive committee decided to name the park after the first cosmonaut. Since 2007, the site has been recognized as a monument of landscape architecture and is under special protection.

\n\n

In 2024, this "green heart" of the city celebrated its 90th anniversary, remaining a major center of attraction for many generations of residents and visitors to the region.

Time Needed

To take a leisurely stroll through the shady alleys, enjoy the views of the water, and try out the main rides, most visitors need 2 to 4 hours. This is enough time to soak in the atmosphere of the relic forest and escape the city's hustle and bustle.

\n\n

If you are planning a visit with children, it is worth setting aside half a day. The variety of playgrounds, rides, and rest areas is captivating, and the opportunity for a small picnic under the pine canopy makes the stay even more pleasant and extended.

Working Hours

The park is open to visitors daily, allowing guests to plan their leisure time whenever convenient. On Mondays, the area is accessible from 00:00 to 22:00, and on other days (Tuesday – Sunday) from 10:00 to 22:00.

\n\n

Please note that entrance to the park area itself is free, but specific rides and entertainment venues may have their own operating schedules depending on weather conditions. It is recommended to check for updates in the official social media group before your visit.
