1905 Square, where the monument now stands, has seen many changes. In the 18th century, the Epiphany Church stood here, and later the Cathedral. Before the image of the leader appeared on this spot, several symbols had come and gone: from a cast-iron monument to Alexander II to the avant-garde "Liberated Labor" monument, which locals ironically nicknamed "Vanka Goly" (Vanka the Naked) due to the figure's nudity.

The modern sculptural composition was ceremoniously unveiled on November 6, 1957. The event was timed to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the October Revolution. The honor of cutting the ribbon and opening the monument was given to representatives of three generations: a veteran of the revolutionary events, a Komsomol member, and a young Pioneer, emphasizing the continuity of Ural traditions.

The project was created by the famous sculptor Vladimir Ingal and architects Anatoly Pribulsky and Pyotr Demintsev. The six-meter bronze figure was cast in Leningrad. Interestingly, in the 1940s, there were original plans to install a joint monument to Lenin and Stalin on the square; however, architectural plans changed, and the city ultimately received the classic ensemble we see today.
