About

The main municipal City Beach of Perm is a primary summer attraction for residents and visitors of the region. Located on the right bank of the majestic Kama, right across from the historical center, it offers some of the best views of the city skyline and the famous Communal Bridge. Although Russia is known for its northern landscapes, during summer months, this place transforms into a true resort oasis within the metropolis.

It's more than just a shoreline; it's a full-fledged recreation area with developed infrastructure. Here, clean sand meets wide green lawns, creating excellent conditions for both sunbathers and those who prefer relaxing in the shade. The area is fully equipped with asphalt paths for walking, comfortable benches, and a modern lighting system that makes it pleasant to stay until evening.

Special attention is paid to inclusivity. There are dedicated changing cabins, adapted toilets, and platforms for people with limited mobility. While swimming in the river is often officially restricted, the beach remains an ideal spot for family picnics, sports, and watching the slow flow of the Kama River.

What to Do

Everyone will find something to do at the City Beach. For fans of an active lifestyle, there is a large volleyball court where amateur matches are often held. A smooth asphalt path stretches along the shore—a favorite spot for those who prefer cycling, rollerblading, or a leisurely stroll with a stroller.

Those wishing to conquer the water can use SUP-board rentals. Stand-up paddling allows you to see the city panorama from a new perspective and enjoy the river's tranquility. For children, there are modern playgrounds to keep young visitors entertained while adults relax on the clean sand or soft lawn.

The infrastructure includes several food points where you can grab a snack or buy refreshing drinks. The safety of visitors is ensured by a rescue post and a first-aid station. It's a great place for a small picnic within the city limits, meeting friends, or simply reading a book while soaking up the sun to the rhythmic sound of the Kama waves.

Getting There

Getting to this popular holiday spot from central Perm is easy. The most pleasant way is to take a walk across the Communal Bridge on foot, then head down to the right toward the river. The walk takes very little time and offers great views of the Kama.

For those who prefer public transport, buses and trams going to the "Bortsov Revolyutsii" stop are suitable. The sandy area is just a few minutes' walk from the stop. You can also always use taxi services; a trip from the city center will be short and budget-friendly.

For drivers, parking is available, but on hot weekends, it's worth arriving early to secure a spot. Proximity to major transport arteries makes the location ideal for spontaneous outdoor relaxation without having to travel far outside the city.

History & Facts

The history of this place began back in the 1940s. In the summer of 1941, the authorities of the city of Molotov (as Perm was called then) decided to organize a well-maintained beach on the right bank of the Kama to provide residents with decent conditions for relaxation. Later, in 1948, the first food stalls and even a small restaurant appeared here.

The City Beach began to take on its modern appearance in the second half of the 1960s. The improvement project was developed by specialists from the Kyiv Engineering and Construction Institute. At that time, getting here was more difficult: before the bridge was built, citizens used river boats.

Interestingly, in old photographs from the mid-20th century, this place was often called "the beach on the Kama Sea." This emphasized the scale and significance of the Kama River for the region. The recreation area received a full renovation and modern technical equipment in 2000, becoming the city's main coastal park.

Time Needed

Usually, 1–2 hours are enough for a brief tour of the area and a short rest. This is plenty of time to walk along the shore and take some panoramic photos of the river and the city.

If you plan on a full day of relaxation with sunbathing, a picnic, or a game of volleyball, it's better to schedule half a day (about 4 hours). Families with children can also easily spend several hours here thanks to the playgrounds and comfortable walking areas.

Working Hours

As a municipal open-air recreation area, the City Beach is open 24/7. You can come here early in the morning to watch the sunrise or late in the evening for a walk under the city lights.

However, please note that the operation of the rescue post, rental points, and cafes is usually limited to daylight hours (mostly from 9:00 to 21:00 during the summer season). Before visiting on public holidays, it is recommended to check information on the official portals of the Perm administration.

Nearby

Exploring the right bank of the Kama can easily be combined with visits to other interesting city locations. Its proximity to the central bridge allows you to quickly move into the heart of city events or continue relaxing in park areas.
