History & Facts

The history of the VolgogradGidroStroy Park of Culture and Leisure is inextricably linked to the founding of Volzhsky itself. The concept for creating this green oasis emerged in 1951, when architects I. F. Mikhailov and V. P. Rusakov from the State Institute of City Planning developed its design. By October 22 of the same year, the first outlines of the future park were defined, laying the foundation for its unique landscape, which continues to impress visitors today with its thoughtful layout and beauty.

Special attention during the park's creation was paid to its landscaping. In April 1952, according to a carefully developed dendrological project, the planting of trees began. Poplars were planted along the park's boundaries, while the inner space was adorned with elms, maples, ashes, acacias, birches, and even fruit trees. Today, the park's botanical collection includes more than 45 species of trees and shrubs, creating a unique atmosphere. Notably, a poplar planted by the city's founder, Fyodor Georgievich Loginov, still grows in the park—a living symbol of the history of Volzhsky.

In 1990, the park received its second, widely known name—"Gidrostroitel" (The Hydro-builder). This name was given in honor of the selfless work of the hydro-constructors and was timed to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the "Volgogradgidrostroy" organization, which played a key role in the city's development. Recognition followed quickly: as early as 1999, the park was named the best in the Volgograd region and has since repeatedly confirmed this honorary title, remaining a favorite vacation spot for many generations of citizens and an important part of the region's cultural heritage.
