The climate in Buurhakaba belongs to the hot semi-arid type, which is characteristic of most interior regions in southern Somalia. An atmosphere of perpetual summer reigns here year-round, with an abundance of sunny days and consistently high temperatures that vary little from season to season.

Despite the general aridity, periods of monsoon rains occur throughout the year. The defining feature of the local weather is the constant heat and relatively dry air, which is only occasionally replaced by higher humidity. The average annual temperature is approximately 26.2°C, making this city one of the warmest places in the region.

For the traveler, the weather in the city is predictable: there are no sudden cold snaps, and major climate changes are linked not to temperature fluctuations but to the alternation of dry and wet seasons. This means that after a hot day, relatively comfortable nights follow, with the thermometer dropping to 22–24°C, providing a pleasant break from the midday sun.

Precipitation in Buurhakaba is distributed very unevenly, which is typical for the arid climate of southern Somalia. Two distinct rainy seasons occur during the year, coinciding with the changing monsoons: the first lasts from April to May, and the second from October to November. November and April are the wettest months, with up to 98–99 mm of rainfall.

In contrast to the rainy periods, January and February are considered the driest months—during this time, rain is virtually non-existent, and air humidity drops to a minimum of 58%. When precipitation does occur, it usually takes the form of brief but very intense tropical downpours, after which clear weather quickly returns.

Snow never falls in this region due to the consistently high temperatures. However, the city boasts an abundance of sunlight, with an average of over 2,800 sunny hours per year. Even in August, when cloud cover peaks, the sun continues to brighten the days for residents and visitors most of the time.

When preparing for a trip to Buurhakaba, it is essential to consider the constant heat and intense solar radiation in Somalia. We recommend bringing lightweight, breathable clothing made from natural fabrics such as cotton and linen, preferably in light colors. Essential accessories include UV-protection sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat, and high-quality sunscreen with a high SPF factor.

For maximum comfort while walking, choose closed but well-ventilated footwear that will protect your feet from hot sand and dust. If your trip coincides with the rainy seasons (April–May or October–November), it is worth bringing a compact waterproof raincoat. It is also extremely important to carry a supply of drinking water and insect repellent, which is especially relevant during wet periods.

Since nighttime temperatures can be 8–15°C lower than daytime highs, a light sweater or long-sleeved shirt may come in handy for evening walks. Also, keep in mind that the local climate can cause cosmetics and medicines to spoil quickly, so it is best to store them in moisture- and heat-protected containers.
