Almería features a unique climate that can be described as hot semi-arid or dry Mediterranean. It is one of the sunniest places in Europe, where clear weather prevails almost all year round. A distinctive feature of the region is the extremely low amount of rainfall: judging by meteorological data, rain here is a great rarity even in the winter months, making the city an attractive destination for sun lovers.

The seasons here are quite mild. Summers are hot and arid, especially in July and August, when the average maximum temperature exceeds 31°C. Winters pass without frost and remain very comfortable: in January and February, the air warms up to an average of 14-16°C during the day. Spring and autumn delight with pleasant warmth, perfect for walks and excursions.

A remarkable trait of the weather in Almería is its surprising stability and dryness. Even in months considered rainy in other regions (such as March or April), rainfall levels here remain minimal. Tourists can expect plenty of sunlight and clear skies, so sunscreen will be useful to you at any time of the year.

The climate in Almería is characterised by mildness and a high number of sunny days, making this region one of the warmest in Europe. The winter period passes without severe cold: the lowest temperatures are recorded in January and December, with averages around 10–11°C. Even on the coldest nights, the thermometer rarely drops below 5–7°C, while during the day the air comfortably warms up to 14–16°C, allowing you to enjoy walks without heavy winter clothing.

Summer in the region is hot and dry, with peak temperatures in July and August. During these months, the average daytime temperature reaches a maximum of about 31.5°C, creating ideal conditions for a beach holiday. Notably, even nights at the height of summer remain very warm — around 21–22°C, which invites long evening promenades. Precipitation is practically absent during the summer season, so tourists can look forward to stable sunny weather.

Transitional seasons are characterised by pleasant warmth and a gradual change in temperature. By May, it becomes summery warm (average maximum around 23°C), and September retains a summer mood with daytime temperatures around 27°C. Travellers should take into account daily temperature fluctuations: the difference between the daytime heat and the night-time cool is usually about 10 degrees, so even in the warm months, a light layer for the evening may prove useful.

Almería is known as one of the driest and sunniest cities not only in Spain, but in all of Europe. Precipitation here is a fairly rare phenomenon, and even in months when the sky turns grey, the amount of falling moisture remains minimal. The annual rainfall level is extremely low, so an umbrella is required here much less often than sunscreen.

If looking at statistics by season, the "wettest" period can tentatively be called early spring. In March, the highest number of days with precipitation is recorded — about 10, and in April — around 8. However, it is important to note that even at this time, the volume of precipitation is only about 2 mm, which suggests a brief light drizzle rather than full-blown downpours.

The summer season in Almería is distinguished by pronounced aridity. In July, rains are almost completely excluded (0 rainy days), and in June and August, the probability of precipitation also tends towards zero with figures of 0 mm. This makes the city an ideal place for a beach holiday, where bad weather is unlikely to disrupt your plans.

Almería is famous for its sunny and arid climate, so the main accessory in your suitcase should be sunscreen with a high protection factor, as well as quality sunglasses and a hat. In summer, when the temperature often exceeds 30°C, give preference to clothing made from natural breathable fabrics such as cotton and linen. Shorts, light dresses, and t-shirts will become the foundation of your wardrobe in the hot season, as rains here are very rare, and you will hardly need an umbrella.

If you are planning a trip in winter or the off-season, it is worth remembering the principle of layering. It may be warm enough for a light jumper during the day, but evenings and nights can be cool, with temperatures dropping to +6°C. Be sure to take jeans, a sweatshirt, and a mid-season jacket with you. Since Almería is located on the coast, it is often windy here, so a windproof jacket will be much more useful than a heavy raincoat, given the low amount of precipitation throughout the year.

For walking around the city and sightseeing, choose comfortable flat shoes, such as trusted trainers or canvas shoes, as you will have to walk a lot and the terrain may be uneven. Beach shoes will come in handy in summer, but they are not always suitable for city excursions. Considering that even in the "wettest" months (March and October) the amount of precipitation is minimal, you can safely travel light without overloading your luggage with bulky items for protection against bad weather.
