Perched atop a high hill and dominating the old part of town, Lenzburg Castle is one of the oldest and most significant fortresses that Switzerland is proud of. This historic site, with its earliest structures dating back to the 11th century, now serves as the central museum of the Canton of Aargau. The castle rises 100 meters above the plain, offering visitors not only a journey into the past but also magnificent views of the surrounding area.

Throughout its 900-year history, the castle has seen many owners, including the Counts of Lenzburg, the Habsburgs, and Bernese governors. Each left their mark on the complex’s architecture, transforming it into a unique ensemble. Today, the museum exhibition spans four floors: here you can see artifacts from the early Middle Ages, Renaissance interiors, and exquisite everyday objects from the 18th and 19th centuries.
Of particular note is the exhibition of weapons and armor, as well as the picturesque French garden that surrounds the buildings. Combining the power of a medieval citadel with the elegance of a noble residence, the castle is a true gem for anyone interested in European history and culture.
