Great Britain is proud of its engineering achievements, and they are presented here in all their diversity. The museum's collection features more than 25 aircraft and helicopters, including the famous Boeing 737 and sleek fighter jets. In addition to full-sized exhibits, you can see detailed models of aircraft, vintage fire engines, and even authentic buses from years past.

The museum is famous not only for its exhibition but also for its hospitality. It has been recognized as a regional winner in the "Best for Pets" and "Best for Motorhomes" categories. Since the site borders the Adventure Wonderland amusement park, it is an ideal spot for a fun-filled family holiday where everyone will find something to enjoy.

What to Do

The main highlight of the museum is its interactivity. Unlike many traditional exhibitions, visitors here are not just allowed but strongly encouraged to climb into the cockpits of legendary machines. You can sit in the pilot's seat of an English Electric Lightning fighter jet or a Westland Wessex helicopter, grab the controls, and imagine yourself in the heat of a challenging mission.

For those seeking even more immersion, the museum features a flight simulator that was hand-designed and assembled by talented volunteers. This is a great chance to test your piloting skills in the virtual sky. Additionally, fans of mechanics will appreciate the collection of aircraft engines, with the powerful Rolls-Royce units holding a special place.

Since the museum is located right on the edge of the airfield, special observation decks have been set up. They offer a magnificent view of the runway, allowing you to watch the real-time takeoffs and landings of modern airliners. And if you have any questions, the museum staff—many of whom are former aviation professionals—will be happy to share fascinating stories and technical secrets about the exhibits.

You can conclude your visit at the souvenir shop. It offers a wide selection of aviation memorabilia: from collectible models and books to original gifts that will serve as an excellent reminder of your visit to this inspiring place.

History & Facts

The history of this site began in May 1998. It originally opened under the name Jet Heritage Museum and was based directly on the airport grounds. Just a year later, in 1999, it received its current name—the Bournemouth Aviation Museum. One of the highlight events of that period was an open day in June 1999, when visitors were given the rare opportunity to see the legendary Concorde aircraft.

At the end of 1999, the museum faced serious challenges due to the bankruptcy of its founding company. However, because the museum portion was established as a separate charitable trust, the collection was saved. From that point on, the museum's operations fell entirely onto the shoulders of dedicated volunteers, who continue to develop it to this day.

In 2007, the museum had to find a new home as the airport required space to expand its parking facilities. The move took place in 2008 to its current location next to Adventure Wonderland park. Interestingly, the large One-Eleven and Herald airliners were unable to move and remained at the old site, but the collection was quickly replenished with new giants.

A landmark acquisition in 2013 was the Boeing 737-200, named "The Spirit of Peter Bath." A unique exhibition dedicated to the history of local aviation and the Bath Travel company was created inside its fuselage. Today, the museum is not just a warehouse for machinery, but a living educational center featuring lectures and themed exhibitions.

Time Needed

To leisurely explore the entire collection, sit in the cockpits, and take photos, most guests need 2 to 4 hours. If you are a true aviation fan who enjoys reading every information plaque, your visit time may be longer.

Consider also the proximity to the Adventure Wonderland amusement park. If you plan to combine a visit to both attractions in one day, it is best to set aside a full day so as not to miss the most interesting highlights at both locations.
