How to get to Bemidji

Located amongst the dense forests and lakes of northern Minnesota, Bemidji is often referred to as the "First City on the Mississippi" and is an ideal destination for nature lovers. You can reach this picturesque corner of the USA in various ways, choosing the optimal route depending on your budget and travel preferences.

The most convenient way to reach the region is by taking a flight to Bemidji Regional Airport (BJI), which receives aircraft from major hubs such as Minneapolis. The airport is located in close proximity to the city, which helps save time on transfers.

If a direct flight is not available, one might consider arriving in neighbouring cities: Thief River Falls (about 121 km) or Brainerd (135 km). From there, travellers usually reach their final destination by renting a car, enjoying the scenery of the American North.

There is no railway station in the city of Bemidji itself, and passenger services in this part of the state are not well developed. The nearest cities mentioned in this context, such as Thief River Falls and Brainerd, also do not have stations on the national Amtrak network.

For this reason, travelling by train is not the most practical choice for this destination. Tourists are advised to use rail transport only to reach the state's major metropolises, and cover the remaining significant part of the journey by bus or car.
