The venue is famous for its independent spirit and lack of major investors, allowing the owners to maintain the highest quality standards. In 2015, just a year after opening, the pub was officially recognized as the Best Irish Pub on the North Shore. A classic rule applies here: guests choose their own seats, creating a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

The menu focuses on carefully selected craft beers from independent breweries and signature cocktails. The pub's kitchen delights with fresh dishes that turn an ordinary dinner into a gastronomic pleasure, and a high 4.5-star rating confirms the love of both tourists and regulars.

What to Do

At "The Indo," everyone will find something to enjoy, from quiet tastings of rare brews to participating in exciting intellectual contests. In the evenings, live music is often played by Bob Kramer and friends, who invite local musicians to join in, creating a unique house-concert feel.

Themed trivia nights are particularly popular, covering everything from hard science to modern pop culture. It’s a great way to meet locals and test your knowledge in a casual setting over a perfectly crafted cocktail.

Foodies should pay attention to the Sunday brunches and special lunch offers on Fridays and Saturdays. If you’re planning to visit the Cabot Theatre, the pub is the perfect starting point for your evening, but remember that tables for small groups are not reserved in advance—it's worth arriving early to snag the best spot.

Getting There

The establishment is conveniently located at 298 Cabot St in the historic city center, right in the heart of the arts district. Since the city is located just 30 kilometers north of Boston, getting here from the metropolis is easy.

If you prefer public transportation, take the MBTA commuter train (Newburyport/Rockport line) to Beverly Depot station. The trip from Boston's North Station takes about 20–30 minutes, after which you only need to walk 10–15 minutes along scenic Cabot Street.

For those traveling by car, the route from Boston follows I-93 N and MA-128 N and takes about 40 minutes. There are parking spaces near the pub, and for those using taxi or Uber services, the trip from Logan Airport takes between 45 and 60 minutes depending on traffic.

History & Facts

The walls of this establishment literally breathe history, as the pub occupies space in a building constructed back in the early 1800s. Throughout its two-century history, the building has retained the unique charm of old New England, which proved perfect for creating an authentic Irish corner.

The modern chapter of "The Indo" began in 2014 when partners Michael Cohen and Stephen Murphy decided to open a completely independent venue. Stephen, a native of Ireland, brought the traditions of classic hospitality to the project, while Michael brought deep knowledge of craft brewing. The pub's name is a tribute to the famous Irish newspaper The Independent, whose slang abbreviation emphasizes the owners' freedom from large investors and corporate standards.

Success came immediately: in its very first year of operation, the influential Northshore Magazine named the venue the Best Irish Pub on the North Shore. Rebranding the old spot was a risky move, but a focus on quality products and a family atmosphere allowed the new owners to quickly win the trust of local residents.

Time Needed

To fully experience the atmosphere of traditional Irish hospitality, we recommend scheduling 1.5 to 3 hours for your visit. This is enough time to enjoy the food at your leisure and appreciate the variety of drinks on the menu.

If you plan to stop by before a show at the nearby Cabot Theatre, it’s worth setting aside at least one hour. On nights with live music or themed trivia, guests often stay for the whole evening, immersing themselves in conversation with the locals.

Working Hours

The pub opens its doors daily, offering different types of relaxation depending on the time of day. From Monday to Thursday, guests are welcome from 4:00 PM to 12:45 AM, and on weekends, the venue operates on an extended schedule: Friday and Saturday from 12:00 PM to 12:45 AM, and Sunday from 11:00 AM to 11:30 PM.

Please note that brunch and lunch menu hours may vary, so we recommend checking the venue's official website before your visit to stay updated on the current schedule and any potential holiday changes.
