Las Vegas, located in the state of Nevada, USA, is characterised by a subtropical desert climate. This means the city experiences long, very hot summers and short, mild to cool winters. One of the main features of the climate is the extremely low rainfall throughout the year, making it one of the driest major cities in the United States.

Las Vegas has clearly defined seasons. Summer, lasting from June to September, is distinguished by extreme heat, with daytime temperatures often exceeding 35°C and sometimes reaching 40°C. Nights bring some relief but remain warm. Winter, from December to February, is significantly cooler, with average temperatures around 8-9°C, and occasional night frosts, though these are rare. Spring and autumn are transitional seasons with very comfortable temperatures, considered the best time to visit.

A distinctive feature of the weather in Las Vegas is the abundance of sunshine all year round and very low humidity, especially during the summer months. The number of rainy days is minimal; precipitation is rare and usually insignificant. This makes planning outdoor activities predictable, however, it is important to remember the need for sun protection and sufficient hydration, especially during the hot season.

Temperature patterns in Las Vegas show significant fluctuations throughout the year, which is typical for the desert climate of the USA. The hottest months are traditionally July, when the average temperature reaches 32.0°C and maximum daytime values can rise to 38.8°C, and August with an average temperature of 30.6°C. The coolest time of the year is considered to be January, with an average temperature of around 8.0°C and minimum night-time temperatures dropping to 3.0°C, as well as December, when the average temperature is 8.6°C.

The summer months in Las Vegas, especially from June to August, are characterised by intense dry heat. Daytime temperatures regularly exceed 35°C, and at the peak of the heat in July, they reach almost 39°C (average maximum 38.8°C). Despite the daytime heat, nights bring noticeable relief: the difference between the maximum day and minimum night temperature can be 10-15°C. For example, in June, the average maximum temperature is 36.0°C, while the minimum is 21.6°C. This means that even during the hottest periods, evenings and nights can be relatively comfortable, although they remain warm.

Winter in Las Vegas, covering the period from December to February, is distinguished by mildness and coolness. Average daytime temperatures during these months fluctuate in the range of 13-15°C (for example, the maximum in January is 13.1°C, in February 14.7°C), making the daytime pleasant for walking. There is no distinct rainy season here; rather, one can speak of rare and insignificant precipitation that occurs from time to time. Even in those months when "wet days" are recorded, the amount of moisture falling is minimal, often not even reaching 1 mm. This highlights the arid nature of the city's climate.

Looking at the annual cycle, a small amount of precipitation, about 1 mm, may fall in January, February, March, and August. March stands out as the month with the highest number of days with precipitation – on average 6 days. January, February, July, and August also count 4 "wet" days each, however, in July, for example, the average amount of precipitation is 0 mm, indicating extremely insignificant, perhaps not even measurable by standard methods, moisture fall. The nature of precipitation is typically short-term and light rain or drizzle, given the desert climate and high temperatures in the summer months. Snowfall in Las Vegas itself is an exceptionally rare phenomenon, practically non-existent.

The lowest number of "wet days" is observed in June, October, and November – just 1 day each. April, May, September, and December count 2 "wet" days each. This means that for most of the time, the sky over Las Vegas is clear and the air is dry, which is a typical trait of a desert climate.

When planning a trip to Las Vegas, consider its desert climate: you can expect an abundance of sun and dry air at any time of the year. Comfortable shoes will be your best companion for long walks along the famous Strip and through vast casino hotels. Be sure to bring sunscreen with high SPF, sunglasses, and a hat for protection against the intense sun. To combat the dryness of the air, skin moisturiser and lip balm will be useful, and a reusable water bottle will help maintain hydration throughout the day.

The summer months, from June to September, in Las Vegas are very hot – daytime temperatures often rise above 35-38°C. During this period, choose light, breathable clothing made from natural fabrics, such as cotton or linen, and don't forget a swimsuit for the numerous pools. Note that air conditioners work intensively indoors, so a light cardigan or sweater will be very handy. In winter, from December to February, the weather is noticeably cooler, especially in the evenings and at night, when the temperature can drop to 3-4°C. For this time of year, you will need warm clothes: jeans, jumpers, and a jacket.

Spring (March-May) and autumn (October-November) delight with pleasant weather, however, daily temperature fluctuations can be significant. In these seasons, the principle of layering is ideal: t-shirts, light jumpers, and jackets will allow you to comfortably adapt to weather changes throughout the day. Precipitation in Las Vegas is a rarity all year round, usually no more than 1 mm falls per month, and the number of days with rainfall is minimal. Therefore, you will most likely not need an umbrella. Nevertheless, a light windbreaker may prove useful for protection against possible wind or for extra warmth on a cool evening, especially in the off-season.
