History & Facts

The history of this site began in 1938, at the height of the Great Depression. Si View Park and its community center were built as part of the Works Progress Administration (WPA) program initiated by President Roosevelt. The federal government funded the labor, while King County provided the construction materials to create a "heart" for the local community.

In 1984, the park's community center was officially recognized as a King County Landmark. This status highlights the architectural and historical significance of the site as an outstanding example of WPA-era projects. Despite decades of use, the building has retained its original appearance thanks to careful restorations of the roof and facade.

The park's journey hasn't always been easy: due to budget issues, it faced the threat of closure several times. However, in 2003, residents showed remarkable unity by forming a Metropolitan Park District to take management under local control and save it for future generations.

In recent years, approximately $18 million has been invested in infrastructure development. Today, the park celebrates its rich history while remaining a modern and vibrant space, which proudly celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2013.

Time Needed

When planning your visit, consider your goals. If you just want to take a stroll, enjoy the views of Mount Si, and take a few photos, 1–2 hours should be sufficient.

For those planning a full family outing with a visit to the pool, time on the sports fields, or a picnic, it's better to set aside 2 to 4 hours. On days with festivals or farmers markets, you could easily spend half a day here.
