History & Facts

The establishment's history began in 1942, when it opened as a rugged saloon in Prineville. Back then, the building, constructed at the height of World War II, often witnessed rowdy cowboy brawls on the weekends. Over time, however, the venue was transformed into a cozy family restaurant while retaining its unique character.

The interior of Club Pioneer is like an open-air museum. Everywhere you look, there are unique items made from raw juniper, created by local craftsmen, and archival prints telling the story of the region's past. One of the most famous relics is a painting in the saloon with a real arrow hole. According to local legend, during a dance, someone shot an arrow right through the crowd, and the arrow—fortunately missing everyone—lodged in the canvas.

In 2009, Jim and Donna Rots became the new owners. Jim admitted he literally fell in love with the "soul" of the place and its importance to the community. Today, under the leadership of general manager Tomi Aldrich, the restaurant continues to serve as a guardian of Oregon's logging traditions and cowboy culture.
