The park is famous for its developed infrastructure: it features the city's only outdoor pool, Amazon Pool, a skate park, numerous fields for team sports, and a unique 5.5-mile running trail system. Special attention is paid to inclusivity—the local playground is considered one of the most accessible and well-thought-out in the region, offering equal play opportunities for children of all physical abilities.

Nature lovers will appreciate the site's ecological component. Amazon Creek winds through the territory, surrounded by restored wet prairies and an ash grove. This area is home to rare plant species, such as Lomatium bradshawii, and offers a sense of wilderness peace within the city limits.

Shared-use trails connect the site with other neighborhoods and the scenic Ruth Bascom Riverbank Path along the Willamette River. Back in the early 1980s, one of the first playgrounds in the USA fully accessible to children in wheelchairs was built here. In 2017, the park reaffirmed its status as a leader in inclusivity by undergoing a major renovation and creating Eugene's first fully inclusive play space for people of all ages.

The wet prairies and ash grove were given poetic names in the Kalapuya Indian language: Gawa-Ni ("the place where you walk through wet meadows") and Ma-Lik ("ash grove"), which were suggested by local student environmentalists.

Ongoing projects to improve pedestrian paths and the safety of the water system make it a living, constantly evolving organism that carefully maintains the natural balance within the urban environment.

For a simple stroll along the main paths and to soak in the atmosphere, 1–2 hours is plenty. However, the park is so multifaceted that you could easily spend much more time here, especially if you plan to have a picnic or visit the play area with children.

If your plans include a run on the famous Amazon Running Trail system or a visit to the outdoor pool during the summer, we recommend setting aside 4 hours to half a day for your visit. Participating in workshops at one of the community centers can also extend your stay, turning a simple walk into a full day of outdoor recreation.

It is worth noting that Amazon Pool operates seasonally, typically opening in late May and closing in September. Individual classes and programs at the community centers may have their own schedules, different from the park's general operating hours.
