History & Facts

The history of the Funland amusement park in Rehoboth, USA, dates back to 1939. Originally known as the Rehoboth Beach Sports Center, it was owned by the Dentino family, who had managed it since the 1930s, laying the foundation for this popular vacation spot.

In 1961, there was a change of ownership: the Fasnacht family, who already had experience managing a small amusement park near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, purchased the center from Mr. Dentino. It was then that the park received its current, well-known name — Funland. However, almost immediately after the deal was closed, on March 6-7, 1962, a massive Atlantic storm hit the coast, causing colossal damage, completely destroying the Rehoboth boardwalk and seriously damaging the newly purchased park.

Despite such a harsh trial, the Fasnacht family showed remarkable resilience and determination. They did not walk away from the purchase and, without waiting for all the repairs to be finished, opened Funland to the public. This dedication allowed the park not only to survive but to thrive. In 2011, Funland proudly celebrated its 50th anniversary under the Fasnacht family's management, a vivid testament to their perseverance and love for the place.

Today, Funland is not just an amusement park, but a true family business with rich traditions. Twenty-nine members of the Fasnacht, Henschke, Curry, Ginder, and Darr families are involved in its management. This generational continuity and teamwork give the park a particularly warm and welcoming atmosphere, attracting new generations of vacationers who want to experience a piece of Rehoboth history.

Time Needed

When planning a visit to Funland in Rehoboth, you should allow for a few hours of enjoyable pastime. For most visitors wanting to ride the main attractions and soak up the park's atmosphere, 2-4 hours will be sufficient. This is enough time to enjoy the rides, perhaps play a few arcade games, and take a leisurely stroll through the grounds of this classic seaside amusement park.

Of course, the exact time depends on your preferences and your company. If you are traveling with young children who want to go on every ride suitable for them, or if you are a big fan of arcade games, your stay might last a bit longer. During peak hours and weekends, there may be queues for popular rides, which should also be considered when planning. However, overall, Funland is a place where you can have fun for part of the day without dedicating your entire vacation day to it, combining it with beach time or a walk along the boardwalk.

Working Hours

The exact opening hours of the Funland amusement park in Rehoboth may vary depending on the season and the day of the week. Generally, such amusement parks are most active during the summer months and on weekends, while in the off-season, their schedule may be reduced or they may be closed. It is recommended to check the current schedule on the official Funland website or via contact numbers directly before your planned visit.

To avoid queues and ensure entry, especially during peak season or holidays, it is also worth checking if advance ticket booking is required.
