How to get there: Introduction
By Plane
The most convenient way to reach "The City Different" is to fly into the municipal airport Santa Fe (SAF), which accepts flights from major hubs and is located just a few minutes' drive from the centre. Despite its compact size and passenger traffic of about 400,000 people per year, it provides excellent connectivity to the region.
Many tourists also choose to fly via the international airport in the city of Albuquerque (ABQ), located 93 km away, as it offers a wider geography of flights and often more favourable fares.

Travel Tips
To make your stay in the capital of New Mexico as comfortable and safe as possible, we have prepared several important recommendations. Consider the features of the high-altitude climate and local culture when planning your trip.
- Clothing and Climate: The city is located at an altitude of over 2000 metres, so the weather is changeable. Be sure to take layered clothing with you, as even after a hot day, the evenings can be cool.
- Transport: The historic centre (Plaza) is compact and ideal for walking. However, for trips to the mountains or neighbouring pueblos, it is better to rent a car.
- Health: Due to the thin air, altitude sickness is possible. Drink plenty of water, use sunscreen, and give your body time to acclimatise in the first few days.
- Finance: US dollars and cards are accepted everywhere. Cash will be useful for buying souvenirs from local artisans selling under the awnings of the Palace of the Governors.
- Tipping: It is customary to leave tips in the USA. In restaurants and taxis, it is considered good etiquette to add 15–20% to the bill amount.
- Local Cuisine: The main question you will be asked in a restaurant is: "Red or Green?" (Red or green chilli?). If you want to try both, feel free to answer "Christmas".
By following these simple tips, you can avoid minor inconveniences and fully immerse yourself in the unique atmosphere of this ancient city.
