Current Weather

Planning a trip to Margilan? In this section, you will find the most up-to-date information on current weather conditions and detailed forecasts to help you plan the perfect trip to this ancient silk-weaving center of Uzbekistan.

Overview

The climate of Margilan is distinctly continental, due to its location in the heart of the picturesque Fergana Valley. The city features a clear change of seasons, ranging from hot, dry summers to moderately cold and snowy winters. Located at an altitude of about 494 meters above sea level, Uzbekistan in this region exhibits significant temperature contrasts that create a unique natural rhythm.

The dominance of steppe climatic conditions makes the local weather predominantly dry. Summer here is characterized by abundant sunlight and minimal cloud cover, making it ideal for lovers of hot weather. Winter, meanwhile, brings a frosty freshness and snowfall that briefly transforms the city's eastern landscapes.

This climate makes the transitional periods—spring and autumn—the most comfortable for visiting. During these months, the warmth is pleasant, allowing you to fully enjoy strolling through Margilan’s famous markets and workshops without being distracted by extreme heat or winter chill.

Temperature

The temperature regime in Margilan is characterized by an impressive range throughout the year. The hottest period is July, when daytime highs consistently exceed +35...37°C. The dry air of the Fergana Valley makes such high temperatures easier to bear; however, the city's pace noticeably slows down at noon, yielding to the rhythm of the southern heat.

Winter in this region of Uzbekistan is noticeably cool. In January and December, average temperatures hover around +2...+3°C during the day, while frost often occurs at night, with temperatures dropping to -1...-2°C or lower. The short period of winter cold is followed by a rapid spring, with the air warming up to a comfortable +17°C as early as March.

An important feature of the local climate is the diurnal temperature variation. Due to low humidity, the difference between a hot day and a cool night, especially in summer and autumn, can reach 10–15 degrees. This should be kept in mind for evening walks: even after a hot day in September, you might need a light wrap or jacket by evening.

Precipitation

Precipitation in Margilan is not very common, which is typical for the arid climate of the Fergana Valley. Clear and dry weather dominates throughout the year, and the annual moisture level remains relatively low. There is no pronounced monsoon season, but the distribution of precipitation has its own seasonal patterns.

The spring is traditionally considered the "wettest" period. March sees a peak in precipitation, with rain occurring up to 10 days a month. This is the time when the region's nature comes to life and fills with color. The second period of relative humidity is autumn, specifically October and November, when light drizzle replaces the summer drought.

In winter, precipitation often falls as snow, especially in December. Snowy days add a special charm to the city, although the snow cover rarely lasts very long. Summer remains almost entirely dry: in July and August, rain becomes a very rare event, guaranteeing tourists flawless blue skies throughout their stay.

Packing Tips

When heading to Margilan between June and August, be sure to pack light clothing made of natural fabrics, such as cotton or linen. A wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and high-SPF sunscreen will be your best friends under the intense sun of Uzbekistan. For long excursions through the historical quarters, choose the most comfortable and breathable footwear.

A winter visit (December–February) will require a completely different set of items: you will need a warm down jacket, thermal underwear, a wool scarf, and gloves, as nighttime temperatures often drop below freezing. For spring and autumn trips, the layering principle is the ideal solution. A light sweater or windbreaker will help you comfortably handle the morning chill, and you can easily take them off during the day as the sun warms the air.

Regardless of the time of year, it is recommended to carry a small backpack for water and personal items, as well as an umbrella in case of rare spring showers. If you plan to visit religious sites, you should ensure you have more modest clothing that respects the local traditions of this hospitable region.
