Imagine an elegant snow-white silhouette rising against the backdrop of the endless blue ocean. This is the Wollongong Breakwater Lighthouse — a historical gem that the city of Wollongong is proud of. Built in 1871 in Australia, it is one of the oldest structures of its kind and a symbol of the region's maritime heritage.

This unique 12.8-meter-tall structure is notable for being Australia's first prefabricated steel lighthouse. Local residents affectionately call it the "Old Lighthouse". Wollongong is the only place on the country's east coast where you can see two lighthouses located in close proximity to each other.
The site is listed on the national heritage register not only for its beauty but also as a monument to 19th-century engineering. Its wrought-iron construction on a concrete base has allowed the lighthouse to withstand the powerful storms of the Tasman Sea for a century and a half, maintaining its original appearance.
