Imagine a massive silver flying saucer that looks as if it has just touched down in the city's main square. The Varginha Spacecraft (Nave Espacial de Varginha) is perhaps the most unusual monument Brazil has to offer tourists. Standing 12 meters tall, the monument was unveiled in 2001 and quickly became the region's main symbol.
Despite its fantastical appearance, the structure serves a practical purpose: a 100,000-liter water tank is hidden inside. This engineering solution transformed an ordinary piece of urban infrastructure into a unique landmark that attracts thousands of curious travelers.
This futuristic object is located in Praça Getúlio Vargas, right in the center of the city of Varginha. The monument was built to commemorate the famous 1996 incident when locals reportedly encountered unidentified objects. Today, the Nave Espacial is a must-see for anyone who appreciates unusual architecture and urban legends.
