Imagine a true emerald oasis tucked away right in the middle of the city's hustle and bustle. The Poço Escuro Forest Reserve is a unique nature reserve covering 17 hectares, located in the city of Vitória da Conquista. This corner of untouched nature in the heart of Brazil is the last surviving fragment of the coastal forest that once covered the entire region.

The reserve is home to incredible biodiversity, combining features of the Atlantic forest, the arid caatinga, and the cerrado savanna. Its name, which translates as "Dark Hollow," refers to a deep grotto where, due to the dense shade of ancient trees, the water at the source of the Verruga River appears almost black.
Despite its dense urban surroundings, Poço Escuro maintains its status as an important refuge for wild animals and birds. It is a popular spot for ecotourism enthusiasts, offering guests the chance to touch wild nature without ever leaving the city limits.
