The climate of Shuanghe, located in the northwestern part of China, has a pronounced continental character. The city is situated in the steppe zone of Xinjiang, which dictates a clear change of seasons: from a frosty, dry winter to a hot, sunny summer. One of the main features of the local climate is the significant diurnal temperature variation and the prevalence of dry winds.

For travelers, the weather here is predictable but requires preparation for contrasts. Spring and autumn in the region are quite short, while summer and winter occupy most of the year. Low air humidity, usually less than 50%, makes the summer heat and winter cold more palpable, so the transitional seasons with their mild temperatures are considered the most comfortable times to visit.

The temperature regime in Shuanghe is characterized by a wide range: from severe winter frosts to summer heat. The coldest time of the year is traditionally December and January, when the mercury averages -9°C, and nightly lows can reach -15...-20°C. Even on sunny winter days, the air rarely warms above freezing.

Summer in this region of China comes into its own in June, peaking in July and August. During this period, daytime temperatures consistently hover around +25...+32°C. It is important to keep in mind the specifics of the dry climate: due to the absence of large bodies of water, the heat here is felt quite intensely but quickly gives way to a pleasant coolness after sunset.

Inter-seasonal fluctuations deserve special attention. In spring, for example in April, the daytime can be summer-like warm (+18°C), while at night the temperature can drop to freezing. Such sharp temperature swings of 15-20°C are typical for steppe Xinjiang, so tourists should be prepared for changing conditions within a single day.

Shuanghe is a region with an arid climate, where precipitation is extremely rare. The total annual moisture barely reaches 150–200 mm, making the city one of the driest places. Most of the rain falls during a short period from May to July, when brief but refreshing showers are possible. Even in the "wettest" months, the number of rainy days rarely exceeds 7–10 per month.

The winter period in China in this zone is characterized by a near-total absence of precipitation. Snow in the city is an infrequent and usually symbolic occurrence; a stable snow cover rarely forms. The driest months are November, December, and January, when the sky remains clear and air humidity is minimal.

This type of weather is favorable for sightseeing, as the probability of prolonged rain is extremely low. However, in spring, one should consider the possibility of dust storms brought by the wind from the surrounding steppes, which is a characteristic feature of the landscape in this part of Eurasia.

Preparing your wardrobe for a trip to Shuanghe depends directly on the season, but the main rule is always layering. If your visit falls in the winter months (from November to March), be sure to bring high-quality thermal underwear, a warm down jacket, woolen accessories, and thick-soled shoes — frosts below -10°C are felt very sharply here due to the wind.

For a summer trip to China, choose clothing made from natural, "breathable" fabrics such as cotton or linen. Be sure to pack sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat, and sunglasses to protect yourself from the intense steppe sun. Given the sharp cooling in the evenings, even in July, you should have a light windbreaker or sweater in your backpack.

Regardless of the time of year, useful accessories include moisturizer or lip balm — the dry Xinjiang air quickly dehydrates the skin. We also recommend having reliable closed shoes for walking on uneven terrain and a portable charger, as gadgets can drain faster in the cold.
