What to Do

Begin your exploration with a thrilling elevator ride to the top of the building, then leisurely descend through the wide spiral, immersing yourself in a world of discovery. Each thematic gallery offers interactive experiences: you can control robot models, study meteorological stations, and even see a model of a real spacecraft. Special zones are provided for children, where complex scientific concepts are explained through simple and fun experiments.

Be sure to schedule a visit to the planetarium, where stunning films about distant galaxies, the mysteries of the ocean, and the workings of our planet are projected onto a giant dome. Interactive seats allow viewers to feel like part of the action on the screen. After your busy program, you can relax in a cafe overlooking the bay or stop by the souvenir shop, where the magnificent views from the observation decks will be a perfect conclusion to your visit.

Getting There

Getting to the building on Avenida Dr. Sun Yat-sen is quite easy thanks to its prominent coastal location. If you are arriving in the region by ferry, the walk from the ferry terminal or the famous Fisherman's Wharf will take only about 5-10 minutes on foot, which is very convenient for those who enjoy strolling by the sea.

For those who prefer public transport, many bus routes stop within walking distance (including 1A, 3A, 8, 10, 12, 28A, and others). You can also always use a taxi — the ride from the city center will be quick, and the center's futuristic conical silhouette serves as an excellent landmark for the driver.

History & Facts

The history of this ambitious project began in 2001 when the concept of creating an advanced scientific and educational hub was introduced. Construction work started in 2006 and took three years, culminating in a grand opening in 2009. The unique project was designed by the world-famous architect I.M. Pei, whose name guaranteed the building's status as a modern architectural masterpiece.

The science center became only the third in the world (after Beijing and Hong Kong) to implement such a large-scale concept of combining science and entertainment under one roof. Its futuristic design, with its conical body and spiral galleries, quickly turned the building into one of the recognizable symbols of modern Macao architecture.

Since its opening, the center has played a vital role in popularizing technology. Its exhibits include true treasures, such as a precise scale model of the Shenzhou VII spacecraft, highlighting the region's significant progress in space exploration.

Time Needed

To fully enjoy all the interactive exhibitions and leisurely explore all 14 galleries, most visitors need about 3-4 hours. This is usually enough time to see the main exhibition and attend one of the fascinating sessions at the planetarium.

If you are planning a visit with children, you might want to set aside a bit more time. The interactive zones and educational experiments are often so engaging for young explorers that they are happy to spend half a day here.
