What to Do

The first thing to do at Cafe El Dandy is to take a seat at the bar and watch the virtuoso work of the bartenders. Here you can try not only the classic mojito, which has become the island's trademark, but also unique innovative cocktails created according to original recipes. The local cuisine also deserves attention: we recommend ordering traditional Cuban snacks, which will perfectly complement your evening.

In addition to gastronomic delights, be sure to pay attention to the walls of the establishment. Since the bar also functions as a gallery, you will be able to see interesting examples of contemporary art that change from time to time. This turns a regular trip to a cafe into a full-fledged cultural experience.

For those who love to watch the city bustle, Cafe El Dandy provides a great opportunity to just relax and watch the life of Old Havana through the bar's open doors and windows. The friendly atmosphere encourages conversation: don't hesitate to strike up a chat with the staff — they often share interesting facts about the city and give great recommendations for further travel.

Getting There

Finding Cafe El Dandy is easy, as it is located in one of the most picturesque districts of the city — Old Havana (Habana Vieja), near Plaza de Cristo. The exact address of the establishment is: Teniente Rey, La Habana.

If you are already in the historic center, the best way to get there is a pleasant walk on foot. The narrow streets of this area are literally made for slow exploration. For those traveling from more distant areas, a taxi or the famous Cuban vintage cars — almendrones — which add a special flavor to the trip, would be an ideal option.

Public transport in the city is represented by buses, however, for tourists it is most often more convenient to use tourist buses or taxis, as they stop in close proximity to the main pedestrian routes. Look for the Drogueria Sarra pharmacy, which is located right next to the bar.

History & Facts

The history of this place dates back to the middle of the last century. In the 1950s, the current premises of Cafe El Dandy were occupied by a bodega — a traditional wine shop owned by Hernán González. In those days, it was a busy place that combined trade and a small space for locals to relax.

After 1959, the functional purpose of the building changed, and for a long time, it was used as an ordinary residential apartment. It seemed that the spirit of the old bar had left these walls forever, but on December 17 (one of the significant days for the owners), a new stage of the space's revival began.

The modern look was given to the establishment by Swedish co-owners, who restored the historic interior with great love and attention to detail. They managed to preserve the spirit of Old Havana while harmoniously complementing it with elements of contemporary art and comfort. Today, the bar has become an integral part of the city's cultural life, bridging the past and the present.

Time Needed

To fully experience the hospitable atmosphere of the establishment, 1–2 hours is quite enough. This is enough time to unhurriedly enjoy one of the signature cocktails and try light Cuban dishes.

Many visitors prefer to drop by in the middle of the day to take a break from the heat and bustle of the streets, or in the evening to listen to the bartenders' conversations and soak up the bohemian mood at the bar. If you are a connoisseur of photography or art, stay longer to look at the interior details and the exhibited works.

Working Hours

The establishment welcomes guests daily, which is very convenient for tourists with a busy excursion schedule. Cafe El Dandy is open from 08:00 to 00:00 seven days a week, offering both early breakfasts with aromatic coffee and late-night cocktails.

Despite the consistent schedule, it is recommended to check the official website or contact the establishment directly before visiting, as opening hours may vary slightly on holidays.
