How to get to Puerto Ayora

Puerto Ayora is the vibrant heart of the Galápagos Islands and the largest settlement in the archipelago, located on the picturesque Santa Cruz Island in Ecuador. Air travel is the only practical way to reach this remote region from the mainland. Travellers arrive at Baltra Airport (GPS), which is located on a small neighbouring island and receives regular flights from major cities in the country, such as Quito and Guayaquil. The airport is well-connected to the town of Puerto Ayora by an established transfer system, including a ferry crossing over the Itabaca Channel.

Since Puerto Ayora is located on an island in the Pacific Ocean, there is absolutely no railway connection to this town. Railways in Ecuador exist only on the mainland, and reaching the archipelago by train is technically impossible.
