How to get to Kärdla

Kärdla is the cosy capital of Hiiumaa Island and one of the greenest cities in Estonia, often referred to as the "Garden City". To visit Kärdla, tourists embark on a little adventure: the island location implies a journey by ferry or a quick flight from the capital. Despite its seclusion, the question of "how to get to Kärdla" is easily answered thanks to regular air connections and well-organized ground transport routes.

The fastest way to reach the island is by taking a direct flight from Tallinn. Planes land at Kärdla (KDL) airport, located just a few kilometres from the city centre, and the flight takes about 30 minutes.

If direct tickets are unavailable, you can consider flying to neighbouring airports, such as Kuressaare on Saaremaa Island or Pärnu. However, in this case, the onward journey to Kärdla will require a transfer to a bus or ferry, which will significantly increase travel time.
