2. Transport. Public transport is poorly developed. For freedom of movement, it is best to rent an SUV with four-wheel drive or make arrangements with local guides.
3. Finances. The local currency is the Pacific Franc. ATMs are available only in the main settlement of Taiohae, so it is better to carry cash when visiting remote areas.
4. Health. Be sure to use insect repellent for mosquitoes, especially at sunset and in the forest. Sunscreen with a high protection factor is also essential.
5. Connectivity. Mobile internet and Wi-Fi may work unstably outside the main village. Download offline maps in advance.
6. Local Etiquette. Polynesians are very hospitable. It is customary to greet people with the phrase "Ia Orana" and a smile; respect for local traditions and nature is highly valued here.
7. What to Avoid. Do not touch coral or remove stones from ancient sacred sites (marae) — this is considered bad luck and disrespectful to the culture.
8. Additional Tip. Try the local fruits, especially the grapefruits from the Marquesas Islands — they are considered some of the most delicious in the world.
