What to Do

An incredible kaleidoscope of emotions awaits you here: the park features over 80 different attractions. Many of them were specially imported from Italy, ensuring high quality and a unique entertainment style. You can ride classic carousels that evoke pleasant nostalgia or experience an adrenaline rush on the roller coasters.

For families with young children, there are many safe and colorful play areas. Watching the park come to life after sunset is a pleasure in itself. Loud music, neon lights, and joyful laughter create a unique vibe that energizes every guest.

In addition to the rides, visitors can enjoy traditional park treats and try their luck at various prize games. It is the perfect place to relax after a long day of sightseeing and simply have fun with friends or loved ones.

Getting There

The location of the entertainment center is extremely convenient for tourists: it is situated right in the Port of Heraklion, opposite the main entrance. If you are staying in the central part of the city, the walk to the park will take very little time.

From the famous "Lion Gate" or the Morosini Fountain, you can walk in just a few minutes by heading towards the waterfront. The bright lights and music of the rides will serve as an excellent guide as soon as you approach the port area.

For those who prefer comfort, taxis are always available — a trip from the city center is inexpensive due to the short distance. You can also use the city buses that go to the port, making this place accessible to all visitors of the island of Crete.

History & Facts

The history of this place began back in 1949 thanks to Savvas Dakanalis. Having been granted a license to organize technical games, he started the venture. In those days, all the rides were manual, and ordinary light bulbs were used for illumination, but this didn't stop the park from bringing joy to people.

The project took its current name in 1957, when Savvas brought the first themed toys from Italy and named the park after his mother, Katerina. For a long time, it was a traveling enterprise: the family traveled throughout Northern Greece, constantly facing the challenges of moving but remaining faithful to their work.

Thanks to the efforts of the founder's son, Kostas, the modest family business transformed into a true entertainment industry giant. Today, "Luna Park Katerina" boasts dozens of attractions that can travel the world, but their "home" and main point of attraction remains the port in the capital of Crete.

Time Needed

To enjoy the favorite carousels and soak up the festive port atmosphere, 2–3 hours is enough for most guests. This time is sufficient to try out the main rides and take vibrant photos against the backdrop of the evening lights.

If you are planning a visit with children, time can fly by, and the walk might stretch through the whole evening. For those who just want to take a look at the park as part of a general city route, an hour will be plenty.

Working Hours

Typically, the park opens its doors to visitors in the afternoon, starting at 5:00 PM, and continues until late in the evening. This is when the attractions look most spectacular thanks to their bright lighting.

Since the park's operating status may change depending on the season or technical conditions (temporary closures are sometimes reported), we strongly recommend checking the current schedule on the official website or social media pages before visiting.

Nearby

A visit to the amusement park can easily be combined with exploring other iconic city spots. The port area is literally steeped in history, and a short walk will lead you to magnificent monuments of architecture and culture.

Exploring the surroundings will allow you to see both ancient fortresses and cozy modern squares, creating the perfect itinerary for a full day in the island's administrative center.
