Current Weather

Planning a visit to Delmas? In this section, you'll find the most up-to-date weather information for this corner of Haiti, including the latest forecasts and charts to help you perfectly plan every day of your trip.

Overview

Delmas is characterized by a tropical trade-wind climate, often classified as a savanna climate. Located in Haiti at an elevation of up to 194 meters above sea level, the city welcomes guests with consistently warm temperatures throughout the year. Dominant trade winds make being outdoors more comfortable even during the hottest periods.

The region has two distinct seasons: the wet season and the relatively dry season. The wet period lasts from June to December and is characterized by cloudier and more humid weather. The dry season, spanning the winter and spring months, is considered the most favorable for tourism due to the abundance of sunshine and the rarity of prolonged rain.

The overall nature of the climate makes this city an attractive destination almost any time of year. Average temperatures here range from +23°C to +34°C, and annual rainfall can reach 2,000 mm, sustaining the lush tropical greenery of the surrounding area.

Temperature

Temperatures in Delmas are remarkably consistent. The hottest months are traditionally August and September, when daytime highs can reach +37°C. Even during the "coolest" months of January and February, daytime temperatures rarely drop below +30°C, providing visitors to Haiti with a truly summery atmosphere.

An important feature of the local climate is the noticeable diurnal temperature variation. While the heat dominates during the day, the thermometer drops to a pleasant +22–24°C at night. This brings a much-anticipated freshness, especially during periods of high humidity, allowing for a comfortable rest after a busy day.

The proximity to the coast ensures that the sea temperature remains ideal for swimming year-round. On average, it is around +27°C, rising to +29°C by early autumn. The optimal season for a beach holiday is considered to be the period from December to April, when the combination of air and water temperatures is most harmonious for international tourists.

Precipitation

Precipitation in Delmas is distributed unevenly, forming distinct climatic cycles. Total annual rainfall is approximately 2,000 mm. Most of this falls during the wet season from June to December, when up to 11 rainy days per month are recorded. The peak of humidity occurs in August–October, when the probability of tropical storms also increases.

The wettest months are often May (up to 231 mm of rain) and September–October. Interestingly, rain here often comes in heavy showers and frequently occurs at night, leaving the daylight hours sunny. Humidity during this period ranges from 66% to 79%, creating a classic tropical atmosphere.

The dry season in this part of Haiti lasts from December to March. This is the most comfortable time for travel: rainfall is minimal (only 2–5 rainy days), and the sky is predominantly clear. Snow is entirely impossible in the region due to high temperatures, so tourists can look forward to an eternal summer.

Packing Tips

When packing for Delmas, focus on lightweight clothing made from natural fabrics such as cotton and linen. Shorts, t-shirts, and light dresses are appropriate year-round. For evening walks during the dry season (December to May), it’s worth bringing a long-sleeved shirt or light trousers. Don't forget your swimwear, as the sea in Haiti remains warm and inviting at all times.

If your visit falls between June and December, be sure to bring a compact umbrella or a light raincoat. During this time, waterproof sandals and quick-drying clothes will be a lifesaver during sudden downpours. Regardless of the month, your backpack should always include high-SPF sunscreen, a hat, and quality sunglasses—the tropical sun here is very intense.

For practical items, we recommend bringing insect repellent and a small first-aid kit. Try to avoid heavy or thick clothing, as high humidity and warmth make them uncomfortable. Comfortable walking shoes and a personal water bottle will help you stay comfortable while exploring the city's attractions.
