The castle complex's main feature is its picturesque three-story main keep (tenshu), which serves as an unofficial symbol of Hirosaki. The castle grounds have been transformed into Hirosaki Park, where, in addition to the main keep, other historical structures such as ancient gates and corner towers (yagura) have been preserved, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of feudal Japan.
Hirosaki Park, which surrounds the castle, is a significant attraction in its own right. It is particularly famous for its more than 2,600 cherry trees (sakura) of various varieties, which transform the park into one of Japan's best spots for cherry blossom viewing in the spring. Additionally, the park features a botanical garden with over 1,500 plant species, making a walk through the grounds even more engaging and educational.
