The Hokkaido University Museum, located in the city of Sapporo, is not just a single building, but an entire complex of significant cultural and scientific institutions. It is a unique place in Japan where visitors can immerse themselves in the region's history and discover its natural wealth and cultural heritage. The museum attracts both researchers and curious tourists, offering a variety of exhibitions.

One of the key parts of the complex is the Archaeological Cultural Properties Exhibition Hall. This institution, which functions as a museum, houses and displays a rich collection of archaeological finds. The exhibits were collected by faculty and students of Sapporo University during years of research, starting from the hall's opening in 1967. Here, you can trace the ancient history of Hokkaido through material evidence of the past.
Equally remarkable is the Hokkaido University Botanical Garden, which is one of the oldest in Japan—it was opened back in 1886 and originally belonged to the Sapporo Agricultural College. Its grounds carefully preserve a section of the primeval forest that once covered the entire Ishikari Plain. Visitors can see rare alpine plants and wild species native to Hokkaido, as well as visit a small but very interesting Ainu museum—dedicated to the indigenous people of this northern island.
