This is a period of lush natural blooming, but tourists should be prepared for frequent rainfall and sultry weather.

The most favorable time for a trip is considered the dry season, which settles in from May to October. During these months, the rains practically cease, the sky remains clear, and the exhausting heat subsides. The average daytime temperature holds at a pleasant +21...+26°C, and nights become fresh, creating ideal conditions for comfortable walks and exploring the sights of the northern region of Mozambique.

The climate in this region is characterized by stable warmth, so Nampula is ready to welcome guests all year round, although the temperature regime has its seasonal specifics. The hottest period here is the months before the start of the rainy season and its beginning — from October to December. During this time, the average temperature holds at +26...+28°C, and in November, which is considered the hottest month, daytime figures often exceed +33°C. This is a time of true tropical summer when the sun is particularly active.

From June to August, a conditional "winter" arrives, bringing welcome coolness and is considered one of the most comfortable periods to visit. The heat subsides, and the average air temperature drops to a pleasant +21...+22°C. July usually becomes the coolest month of the year: comfortable warmth is maintained during the day, but nights become noticeably fresher, with the thermometer potentially dropping to +16°C, creating ideal conditions for rest after a busy day.

Travelers should also consider daily temperature fluctuations, which are most noticeable in the dry season and early spring. For example, in September and October, the difference between the daily maximum and nightly minimum can be about 12 degrees. After a hot day, when the air warms up to +30°C and above, the evening temperature quickly falls to +18...+20°C, so having light outerwear for evening walks will be very handy.

Climatic conditions in Nampula are distinguished by a pronounced change of seasons, determining the rhythm of city life. Nature allocates the greatest amount of moisture to the period from December to March. January is considered the rainiest month, when precipitation can be observed for up to 25 days, so tourists planning a trip for this time should definitely bring waterproof clothing and an umbrella.

The dry season, on the contrary, is characterized by an abundance of sunny days and clear skies. From May to October, rain becomes a rare phenomenon. In the middle of the year, especially in June, July, and August, the number of days with precipitation is minimal (on average from 2 to 4 days per month). This time is considered the most favorable for excursions and long walks in the fresh air.

April and November act as transitional periods. In April, rainfall intensity decreases (about 13 days with rain), and in November, humidity begins to gradually rise before the new season of downpours. Snow never occurs in this region of Mozambique; all precipitation falls exclusively as rain.

When preparing for a trip to Nampula, prefer clothing made from light natural fabrics, such as cotton and linen, which allow the body to breathe in the hot climate. In the dry season, which lasts from May to September, the weather becomes milder and more comfortable for walking, but nights can be quite fresh. In June and July, the night temperature drops to 16-17°C, so we recommend using the layering principle: bring a light jacket, windbreaker, or warm jumper for evening outings. Also, do not forget comfortable closed shoes for excursions and long walks around the city.

Regardless of the time of year, the African sun requires reliable protection. Your suitcase must contain sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat, and cream with high SPF.
