History & Facts

The history of this place began in the mid-19th century. Between 1847 and 1851, a state-owned fruit orchard was established here near the Nalchik fortress. The first seedlings of pears, apple trees, and apricots were brought from the famous Nikitsky Botanical Garden in Crimea and from Georgia. The garden received its well-known name—Atazhukinsky—in 1865 in honor of the Kabardian Prince Atazhukin.

\n\n

In the early 1920s, the territory underwent a major reconstruction. City residents actively participated in community work days, landscaping the main alley and creating artificial lakes. During the Soviet era, the park changed names several times, being called "Kabardinsky" and Stalin Park, but its historical name was finally restored in 2007. Notably, the ceremonial entrance arches (the Vesnin pylons) were erected by local youth in just two days in 1934.

\n\n

The park has always developed as a vital part of the resort infrastructure. As early as 1913, the first therapeutic baths and a swimming pool appeared here, and later a small hydroelectric power station was built. In 2002, Atazhukinsky Garden deservingly earned the title of the best green park in Russia, confirming its status as a unique natural and architectural complex.

Time Needed

To fully enjoy the atmosphere and all the entertainment the park has to offer, plan to spend 4 to 6 hours here. This time is sufficient to try the popular rides, take a leisurely stroll through the shady alleys of the Atazhukinsky Garden, and visit the shooting range or billiard hall.

\n\n

If your plans include a trip on the cable car to the observation deck and lunch at the panoramic restaurant, it is better to set aside a full day for your visit. Families with children are also recommended not to limit themselves to a couple of hours, as the playgrounds and abundance of activities are sure to keep young travelers occupied for a long time.

The amusement park welcomes guests throughout the week; however, the operating schedule varies by day. On weekdays, the rides operate on a reduced schedule, while on weekends, the park doors are open 24 hours a day.
