The amusement park in Vake Park is a cozy entertainment zone that has become an integral part of one of the largest park ensembles in sunny Georgia. Unlike the bustling central squares, a sense of tranquility prevails here, complemented by fountains and wide, shady avenues. The park is rightfully considered a hallmark of Soviet-era landscape design, having retained its charm even after extensive renovation.

Today, it is a hub for families with children and active leisure enthusiasts. Beyond the classic carousels and playgrounds, Vake Park is famous for its sports zones and proximity to natural landmarks, making it a must-visit for any tourist seeking a balance between urban comfort and nature.

What to Do

The main draw here is the harmonious blend of active recreation and relaxation. Children will be thrilled by the amusement rides and playgrounds nestled in the shade of the trees, while adults can enjoy the cool breeze by the cascading fountains. Be sure to take a ride on the famous aerial cable car: the gondolas will whisk you away to Turtle Lake in just a few minutes, offering breathtaking bird's-eye views of the park along the way.

For those who prefer to keep moving, the park features excellent paths for jogging and cycling, as well as tennis courts and basketball courts. History and monumental art lovers can stroll to the Memorial of Glory and take in the 28-meter Victory statue. This location is also perfect for photoshoots, thanks to its elegant pavilions, sculptures, and abundance of exotic greenery.

If you’re lucky, you might catch a sporting event at the Mikheil Meskhi Stadium, located right next door. After a busy day, it’s lovely to have a small picnic on one of the many lawns or simply relax on a comfortable bench, listening to the birds chirping and the sound of the fountains.

Getting There

Getting to the entertainment zone in the Vake district is easy, as the park is located in one of the city's most vibrant areas. The main landmark is Chavchavadze Avenue. City buses and minibuses (marshrutkas) run here regularly from various parts of the capital. If you prefer the metro, you can travel to "Vake" station and then walk about 10–15 minutes to the main entrance.

For those who value comfort, taxis are the optimal choice (using apps like Bolt or Yandex Go). A trip from Liberty Square or the Old Town will take approximately 10–20 minutes, depending on traffic. For those with private vehicles, there are parking areas provided at the park entrance.

If you have time and enjoy walking, the route from the city center along scenic Rustaveli Avenue, transitioning into Chavchavadze, takes about 40 minutes. This is a great chance to see modern Tbilisi before immersing yourself in the greenery of the park's alleys.

History & Facts

The history of this site began in 1946. On what was once a marshy wasteland, an ambitious project was launched to create the city's "green lungs." Extensive work was undertaken to transform the difficult terrain into a landscaped park, including soil drainage and even controlled blasting. This masterpiece was brought to life by architect K. Dgebuadze and the renowned dendrologist N. Tsitsishvili.

Originally named Victory Park, its layout is strictly symmetrical: radial paths lead from the central entrance, and the entire territory is planted with hundreds of thousands of trees—from conifers and oaks to exotic palms. In the 1950s, a stadium was added, followed later by a cinema and pavilions, turning the park into the district's primary cultural and leisure hub.

In 1981, the park's appearance was further enhanced by the majestic Memorial of Glory. It is crowned by a 28-meter Victory statue created by the famous sculptor Zurab Tsereteli. After a period of decline in the 1990s, the park has undergone a major renovation in recent decades: the cable car was restored, and recreation zones were updated. In 2017, the territory was granted cultural heritage status, confirming its historical and ecological significance.

Time Needed

To fully soak in the atmosphere of this place, we recommend setting aside 3 to 5 hours for your visit. This is enough time for children to enjoy the rides, and for adults to stroll through the shady avenues and take the cable car up.

If you plan to have a picnic or combine your visit to the entertainment zone with a trip to Turtle Lake, it’s worth dedicating almost a whole day (about 6 hours). This is especially recommended for family trips on weekends when the pace of leisure is more relaxed.

Working Hours

The amusement park and the entire Vake Park area are open to visitors 24/7. This makes it an excellent spot for both early morning jogs and late evening strolls under the lamplight.

The schedule is the same for all days of the week: Monday to Sunday, 24 hours a day. However, please note that individual rides and the cable car may have their own operating hours, typically following daylight hours.
