One of the most striking and majestic landmarks of Vladikavkaz is the monument to General Issa Pliyev. This grand monument is dedicated to the outstanding Soviet commander, twice Hero of the Soviet Union, and is rightfully considered one of the finest equestrian statues in Russia.

The sculpture, set on a high granite pedestal, depicts the general in dynamic motion: his horse seems frozen in a swift gallop above the banks of the turbulent Terek. The detailing of the monument is impressive—from the folds of the fluttering burka (cloak) to the elements of the military uniform. The height of the figure is more than three meters, which, combined with the massive base, makes the monument a dominant feature of the square.

In clear weather, a breathtaking view of Table Mountain opens up behind the bronze rider, creating an incredibly photogenic and powerful image. The monument is included in most tourist routes and is a "place of power" where history meets the natural beauty of the Caucasus.
