Opened in 2017, the park covers an impressive area of nearly 7,000 square meters. There are no traditional museum exhibits behind glass here. Instead, cutting-edge technologies are used: 3D modeling, interactive tables, animation, and digital reconstructions. It is one of the most technologically advanced sites in the region, offering visitors 86 exhibition spaces equipped with hundreds of projectors.

One of the main highlights of the complex is the only 12-meter dome cinema in the Sakhalin Region. This is a place where you can literally find yourself at the center of historical events while enjoying panoramic imagery. The park has become a true cultural hub, attracting curious tourists and city residents alike with its innovative approach to education and leisure.

What to Do

In this park, history is literally at your fingertips. Visitors can explore four main exhibitions: "The Rurikids," "The Romanovs," as well as halls dedicated to the turbulent 20th century and modern history up to 2016. Instead of passive observation, you are invited to interact actively: using touch tables and Kinect systems, you can independently study maps, documents, and rare archival footage.

Special attention should be paid to the regional content, which is seamlessly woven into the national narrative. You will learn a lot about the discovery and development of Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands, seeing how events on the empire's fringes reflected global historical processes. For visual learners, the 12-meter dome cinema will be a real revelation, with regular screenings of specially created documentaries and graphic projections.

Beyond the permanent exhibitions, the park is a hive of activity, hosting themed festivals, concerts, and conferences. Studying history here turns into a dynamic show created through a collaboration between scientists and modern artists. It is an excellent place for a family visit, where everyone—from children to adults—will find something truly captivating.

Getting There

The complex is located at 4 Svyashchennomuchenika Ilariona Troitskogo Street. Finding it is easy—the park is situated just south of Victory Square (Ploshchad Pobedy), which is one of the city's main landmarks. Thanks to this location, the site is easily accessible for both locals and tourists.

If you decide to use public transport, choose buses that go to the "Ploshchad Pobedy" stop. From there, it’s just a couple of minutes' walk to the entrance of the historical park. It is also convenient to reach by taxi from anywhere in the city; a ride from the city center will take about 10–15 minutes.

For those traveling by car, there is ample parking next to the building. The road network in this part of the city is well-developed, making a visit to the park comfortable at any time of day.

History & Facts

This innovative complex was built in record time—construction and technical outfitting took only one year. The grand opening took place on November 4, 2017, serving as a landmark gift to the region's residents for National Unity Day. Since then, the park has become an integral part of the region's cultural landscape.

A massive team of specialists worked on creating the content: historians, artists, cinematographers, and designers joined forces to turn the traditional textbook format into a vibrant multimedia show. Today, the park is an important division of the "Victory" Museum and Memorial Complex state cultural institution.

The project's main mission was to make the history of Russia objective, visual, and truly exciting. The Sakhalin site was one of the first in the country to present regional history on such a large and detailed scale alongside the federal agenda, turning the museum into one of the city's main attractions.

Time Needed

To fully explore all four exhibitions and watch a film in the unique dome cinema, it is recommended to set aside 2 to 3 hours. This is enough time to not only walk through the halls but also to actively engage with the interactive panels.

Of course, the total duration of your visit largely depends on your curiosity and interest in specific periods of the past. Those who prefer to dive deep into the details and study every digital stand can spend half a day in the park, making amazing discoveries at every step.

Working Hours

The Historical Park welcomes guests throughout the week, except for Monday, which is a day off. From Tuesday to Thursday, as well as on Sunday, the complex is open from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM. On Saturday, the doors are open until 7:00 PM, and Friday is the perfect day for those who prefer evening strolls, as the park stays open until 8:00 PM.

We recommend planning your time in advance and checking the current schedule on the official website just in case, as the operating hours may change during holidays or major city events.
