On Victory Square (Ploshchad Pobedy) in the city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk stands an impressive building—the "Pobeda" Museum and Memorial Complex. This modern state cultural institution has become a signature landmark that Russia takes pride in within its eastern region. Opened in 2017, the complex is a large-scale project designed to preserve and pass on the true history of military glory of Sakhalin and the Kurils to future generations.

The architectural ensemble of the complex includes not only the museum building itself but also a memorial zone featuring the Eternal Flame and the majestic Alley of Heroes. Together with the neighboring memorial commemorating the 30th anniversary of the victory over militaristic Japan, "Pobeda" creates a unified, solemn space filled with deep meaning and respect for the past.
Inside the museum, unique collections await guests: from personal belongings of combatants to rare archival photographs and authentic military equipment. Of particular value is the fact that many exhibits were donated by ordinary people, making this a truly "people's museum" that preserves the living memory of their compatriots' lives.
