Where the Kysuca River meets the mighty Váh, the majestic Budatín Castle rises — an architectural gem that modern Slovakia is proud of. This historic fortress, located in the city of Žilina, has served as a reliable guardian of the region for centuries, preserving the spirit of the Middle Ages and the elegance of later eras to this day.

The main symbol of the castle ensemble is the massive keep (donjon), built back in the 13th century. It dominates the landscape and serves as a prime example of Romanesque architecture. Despite numerous reconstructions, the castle has retained its unique energy, transforming from a grim defensive post into an important cultural center and museum.
In addition to the citadel itself, the complex includes preserved fortress walls and an elegant Baroque chapel. The park surrounding the castle gives this place a special charm, making it one of the most recognizable and attractive landmarks in the region.
