Passengers should be attentive: the stations are located in different places, so please check the station name on your ticket carefully. Urzáiz is integrated into a large shopping centre and features futuristic architecture, whereas Guixar is located closer to the port. Entrances are equipped with clear signage, and electronic display boards will help you quickly find the correct platform.

How to Get There

Reaching the Vigo railway stations is easy thanks to a well-developed public transport network. Vitrasa city buses run regularly between the city centre and both stations; the journey usually takes 10–15 minutes. If you are travelling from Vigo Airport (Peinador), it is most convenient to take a taxi or use the express bus, with a travel time of approximately 20–25 minutes.

For those who prefer walking, it is important to remember that Vigo is situated on hills. However, to access the Urzáiz station from the lower part of the city, you can use the impressive Halo public lift. Taxi stands are located directly outside the terminal exits, ensuring a quick and comfortable transfer.

Services and Amenities

Vigo stations offer a wide range of services to ensure a comfortable wait for your train. The stations feature ticket counters and self-service machines where you can purchase or print travel documents. Passengers have access to spacious waiting lounges, clean restrooms, and free Wi-Fi (Adif_Free_Station network).

Special attention is paid to accessibility: the stations are equipped with lifts, ramps, and tactile paving for citizens with reduced mobility. If you are departing from Vigo-Urzáiz, you can enjoy the infrastructure of a huge shopping centre: shops, ATMs, car rental services, and luggage lockers, making your time at the station maximally convenient.

Where to Eat

Dining options at Vigo stations are excellent, especially at Urzáiz. Since it is connected to the Vialia shopping centre, passengers have access to a huge food court with dozens of choices: from well-known fast-food chains to restaurants serving local cuisine. Here you can have a substantial lunch with an average bill of 10–15 euros or grab a takeaway meal.

Near the Vigo-Guixar station, on Rúa Areal, there are numerous traditional coffee shops and cafes. We recommend stopping by to enjoy a cup of coffee with Galician pastries or having some light snacks before your journey. This is a great chance to experience the atmosphere of the city even during a short layover.

Station History

The railway history of Vigo dates back to 1878, when the arrival of the first train forever changed the economy of this port city. For decades, the station served as the main link with Madrid and neighbouring Portugal, undergoing several stages of expansion.

The newest chapter in its history is connected with the massive reconstruction and opening of the Vigo-Urzáiz station. This project, designed by the renowned architect Thom Mayne, allowed for the introduction of high-speed trains and moved the railway tracks underground. Today, the station is not only a transport facility but also a symbol of Vigo's architectural renewal.

Passenger Tips

When planning your trip, arrive at the station at least 30 minutes before your train departs. This is particularly important for high-speed services (AVE, Alvia), where security checks and luggage scanning are conducted before accessing the platform. Keep your tickets and documents close at hand.

Top tip: double-check exactly which station (Urzáiz or Guixar) your train departs from, as the distance between them is about 2 km. If you have a transfer between these stations, allow at least 20–30 minutes for the journey. The stations close at night, so for long waits, it is better to book a hotel nearby.
