Tucked away among the ancient streets for which Jaffna is famous, lies a unique architectural monument—Mantri Manai. This site consists of the picturesque ruins of the former residence of the Chief Minister of the Kingdom of Jaffna. The building is one of the few surviving testaments to the era of the ancient Tamil state in northern Sri Lanka and is officially recognized as a protected historical monument.

The complex's architectural style combines elements of traditional craftsmanship with features characteristic of the colonial period. The tall tower, topped with a circular dome and adorned with columns on the sides, is particularly striking. Despite its dilapidated state, the two-story structure still impresses with its carved details and stately forms that once emphasized the high status of its inhabitant.
Today, Mantri Manai is not just a historical site, but an atmospheric place that allows travelers to touch the authentic heritage of the region. Located in the heart of the historic zone, the residence serves as an important reminder of the peninsula's rich administrative and cultural past.
