History & Facts

The history of Visionite Arena began on December 17, 1963, when it opened under the name Umeå ishall. At that time, it was only the third ice arena in the entire country. The landmark first match took place shortly before the official opening, on December 1, where the local club Tegs SK won a decisive victory, and Bertil Östlund went down in history as the scorer of the very first goal on this ice.

In 2001, the building underwent a large-scale renovation. The most impressive stage of the work was raising the roof, which significantly increased the internal space. This modernization cost 43.5 million kronor. Since then, the facility has changed its name several times, reflecting partnerships with various brands: from Skycom Arena and T3 Center to A3 Arena and Winpos Arena, until the current name — Visionite Arena — was established in 2024.

The arena has repeatedly been a center for world sports, hosting the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships (JVM) in 2000 and the Men's U18 Championship in 2019. Interestingly, in 2004, it even hosted a preliminary round of the famous music competition Melodifestivalen. In 2009, an unusual event occurred in the management of the facility: the municipality purchased the arena for the symbolic price of 1 krona.

Time Needed

The duration of your stay at Visionite Arena largely depends on the purpose of your visit. If you plan to attend a hockey match, it is recommended to set aside about 3–4 hours in your schedule. This time is sufficient to pass through security comfortably, buy souvenirs or grab a snack during the intermissions, and fully enjoy the game.

For attending other events such as concerts, themed exhibitions, or fairs, the time can vary. Generally, exploring an exhibition takes 1.5–2 hours, while musical shows can last the entire evening. In any case, the arena's modern infrastructure allows you to spend your time comfortably without feeling rushed.
