Aigle Castle is a majestic medieval fortress rising among emerald vineyards in the heart of the wine-growing region of the Canton of Vaud. Located in the picturesque town of Aigle, this architectural monument is considered a national treasure that Switzerland is rightfully proud of. Its powerful walls with conical turrets and cozy courtyards decorated with flowers create the atmosphere of an old fairy tale against the backdrop of snow-capped Alpine peaks.

Today, the former citadel has turned into a true temple of winemaking. The Museum of the Vine and Wine (Musée de la Vigne et du Vin) is open within the castle walls, its exhibition occupying 17 halls. Visitors can learn about more than 1,500 years of history of grape cultivation in this region, seeing unique artifacts — from antique bottles to huge wooden presses from the early 18th century.
The architectural ensemble of the castle is striking in its harmony: austere defensive bastions coexist here with elegant clock towers. The view from the fortress walls over the endless rows of vines and the Rhone valley makes a visit to this place a mandatory stop for any traveler who appreciates history and aesthetics.
