One of the main features of this place is its accessibility: entrance to the park area with the animals remains free of charge. The exhibits primarily focus on European fauna. Here, you can see red deer, powerful mountain goats, mouflons, otters, and even raccoon dogs, living in spacious enclosures that closely mimic their natural habitat.

Since 2022, the zoo has become part of the innovative MUZOO complex, merging with the Natural History Museum. It is now more than just a place for a walk; it is a full-fledged scientific and educational center, featuring a modern vivarium with reptiles and amphibians, as well as a care station for injured wild animals, highlighting the park's commitment to biodiversity conservation.

What to Do

At Zoo du Bois du Petit-Château, guests can encounter nearly 240 inhabitants. You can spend hours observing the lives of bears, lynxes, wildcats, and deer. For bird enthusiasts, there are aviaries home to over 150 birds of 25 different species, including majestic eagle owls, secretive scops owls, and vibrant peacocks.

Special attention should be paid to the architecture of the park itself. This harmony of nature and historic design creates a unique atmosphere for a peaceful getaway.

The interactive part of the MUZOO complex invites visitors to immerse themselves in the world of science across an area of 600 m². History & Facts

The history of this site began on September 7, 1891, when a public park in the neo-romantic style was established on land acquired by an improvement society. Initially, there were only a few enclosures and ponds, but over time the area transformed into a favorite recreation spot. The site officially received full zoo status in 1974.

A significant milestone was the creation of the vivarium in 1969, which later moved into five specially built pavilions. The latest of these, designed for a crocodile, was completed recently in 2023. Parallel to this, the Natural History Museum flourished, having been founded in 1880 thanks to the enthusiasm of local naturalists. One of the museum's iconic exhibits is still the stuffed wolf from Pouillerel, captured by the pharmacist Célestin Nicolet in 1845.

A new era for the attraction began in December 2022. Following a massive renovation costing 5.7 million francs, the zoo and museum merged under the MUZOO brand. Today, it is not only an exhibition space with a collection of 100,000 objects but also an important conservation center that provides care and treatment to approximately 1,000 wild animals every year.

Time Needed

To take a leisurely stroll through the park's shaded alleys, observe the behavior of the bears and lynxes, and explore the museum exhibits, visitors usually need between 2 to 4 hours. This is the optimal amount of time to cover all the key areas of the complex without rushing.

If you plan to visit MUZOO with children, your visit may last longer as the museum's interactive exhibitions and play areas are very engaging. It's also worth setting aside an extra half hour to relax in the local cafe or visit the souvenir shop at the end of your walk.

Working Hours

Zoo du Bois du Petit-Château is open to the public daily, allowing guests to plan their visit for any day of the week. The schedule is consistent: from 8:00 to 18:00, Monday through Sunday.

Please note that while the stroll through the animal park itself is free, visiting the MUZOO museum and the vivarium requires the purchase of a separate ticket. The museum's opening hours may differ slightly from the park's schedule, so it is recommended to check the details at the ticket office upon arrival.
