Current Weather

Planning a trip to Zhubei? Here you will find the most up-to-date information on current weather conditions and detailed forecasts to help you perfectly plan every day of your trip to Taiwan.

Overview

Zhubei, located in the northern part of Taiwan, is characterized by a humid subtropical climate with pronounced seasonal changes. The weather here largely resembles neighboring Taipei: mild, though sometimes windy winters are followed by hot and humid summers. Throughout the year, the city is influenced by maritime air masses, which ensure high humidity and frequent cloud cover.

The main seasons are clearly divided: summer months (June — September) bring tropical heat and peak rainfall, while the winter period (December — February) is characterized by drier and fresher weather. Spring and autumn are considered transitional and the most comfortable times of the year for long walks, when the exhausting heat has not yet arrived or has already subsided, and the rains are not as intense.

For tourists, the city's climate is favorable at almost any time, but it is important to consider the high humidity that persists year-round. In winter, it brings a sense of freshness, and in summer, it creates a "steambath" effect, which is characteristic of most coastal regions of the island.

Temperature

The temperature regime in Zhubei is stable but has a noticeable seasonal amplitude. The hottest month is traditionally July, when average daytime figures reach +30.3°C, while nighttime coolness brings only relative relief at +25.9°C. The summer period from June to August is characterized by high mugginess, which can make the real-feel temperature significantly higher than official data.

In contrast to summer, the winter months, especially January and February, bring a pleasant freshness. The average temperature during this time fluctuates around +15...+16°C. Although the air warms up to +18°C during the day, nighttime lows sometimes drop to +13°C, which, combined with the wind, requires light outerwear. Fluctuations between day and night are most noticeable during the winter period, whereas in summer, the temperature difference is smoothed out by cloud cover.

For those planning a seaside holiday in Taiwan, it's worth noting that coastal water temperatures in this region remain comfortable for swimming most of the year. In February, the water warms up to +23°C, and at the height of summer, from May to September, its temperature reaches a magnificent +28...29°C, making boat trips as pleasant as possible.

Precipitation

Precipitation in Zhubei is unevenly distributed throughout the year, following the rhythms of the monsoons. The main rainy season falls between May and September. The wettest months are June and August, when rainfall can exceed 170–200 mm. In August, there can be up to 21 rainy days per month, with precipitation often falling in the form of powerful but brief tropical downpours.

The winter period in Taiwan is considered relatively dry. From November to February, the amount of precipitation decreases significantly, and rains more often take the form of light drizzle. The driest month is usually November, when the minimum moisture volume is recorded — about 52.9 mm. This time is excellent for outdoor sightseeing without the risk of being caught in a prolonged downpour.

Snow in the city itself is practically impossible due to its subtropical location, but in the winter months, it can sometimes be seen on the peaks of distant mountains. Tourists should remember that even during "dry" periods, humidity in the city remains high, reaching 85-92%, so clothes take longer than usual to dry.

Packing Tips

When heading to Zhubei during the summer period (May to September), opt for clothing made of natural breathable fabrics such as cotton or linen. Due to high humidity and active sun, essential items include sunscreen with high SPF, a wide-brimmed hat, and quality sunglasses. Don't forget a sturdy umbrella or a light raincoat — tropical downpours can start suddenly and be very intense.

For a trip in the winter months (December — February), it is best to stick to the principle of layering. Although there are no severe frosts in this part of Taiwan, the cool sea breeze and humidity make temperatures of +13...+15°C quite noticeable. A light windbreaker, a cozy sweater, and closed shoes will be necessary for comfortable evening walks around the city.

Year-round, you will need comfortable shoes with good ventilation or a water-repellent coating. If you plan to visit parks or rural areas, be sure to bring insect repellent. Also useful accessories would be a portable fan for hot days and a compact adapter for Taiwanese sockets to always stay connected.
