Overview

The climate in Banqiao can be described as warm and humid subtropical. The city enjoys pleasant weather for most of the year, with noticeable but not extreme temperature fluctuations between seasons. Winters here are mild, with average temperatures around 15-17°C, while summer brings hotter and more humid weather, with the mercury rising to an average of 27-28°C and maximum values potentially exceeding 30°C.

There are two distinct main seasons in Banqiao: a warm, humid summer (roughly from May to September) and a cooler but still mild winter (from December to February). Spring and autumn are transitional periods with comfortable temperatures. A feature of the local weather is the high number of days with precipitation throughout the year – from 14 to 20 days monthly. However, despite the frequency, the total amount of precipitation remains relatively low, usually within 3-8 mm per month. This indicates a prevalence of light rain or drizzle rather than heavy downpours, creating a sense of constant humidity, especially in the summer months.

Therefore, when planning a trip to Banqiao, it's worth being prepared for warm weather and high humidity, especially in summer. While heavy rains are not typical, light precipitation is possible at almost any time of year, so having an umbrella or a light waterproof jacket will come in handy.

Temperature

The city of Banqiao experiences a distinct change in temperature regimes throughout the year, but without extreme cold. The annual range of average temperatures stretches from approximately 15.3°C in January to 28.2°C in July. The coldest month is usually January, when the average temperature is 15.3°C, the minimum night temperature drops to 13.6°C, and the daytime maximum reaches 17.1°C. The hottest month is July, with an average temperature of 28.2°C, daytime highs around 30.4°C, and nighttime lows rarely falling below 26.0°C.

The summer period in Banqiao, which lasts roughly from June to September, is characterized by hot and humid weather. Average temperatures in these months range from 26.4°C (in September) to 28.2°C (in July). Daytime highs often exceed 28°C, reaching 30.4°C in July, while nights remain very warm, with temperatures no lower than 24.5°C (in September). Diurnal temperature fluctuations in summer are small; the difference between day and night figures is usually around 4°C (for example, in July, the difference between the average maximum of 30.4°C and the average minimum of 26.0°C is 4.4°C), which is typical for a humid subtropical climate. June, July, and August are the warmest months, with average maximum temperatures from 28.8°C to 30.4°C.

The winter months, from December to February, in Banqiao are mild and cool. Average temperatures in this season vary from 15.3°C (in January) to 16.7°C (in December). At night, the temperature can drop to 13.6°C (in January) - 15.2°C (in December), and during the day, the air warms up to 17.1°C (in January) - 18.2°C (in December). Frost is uncharacteristic for this region. The difference between day and night temperatures in winter is also small, usually within 3-4°C (for example, in January, the difference between the average maximum of 17.1°C and the average minimum of 13.6°C is 3.5°C), ensuring consistently cool but not freezing weather. Transitional seasons – spring (March-May) and autumn (October-November) – demonstrate a gradual rise and fall in temperatures respectively, connecting the cool winter with the hot summer.

Precipitation

In Banqiao, precipitation is a frequent occurrence throughout the year, and it is difficult to distinguish a clearly defined dry season. The number of rainy days remains consistently high, ranging from 14 days in March and April to 20 days in June, August, and December. This means that even in months with a relatively small total volume of precipitation, the probability of rain remains significant.

The highest amount of precipitation falls in the summer and autumn months. June is the wettest month by volume, reaching an average of 8 mm, with about 20 rainy days. May (6 mm), July (5 mm), August (5 mm), September (6 mm), and October (7 mm) are also characterized by significant precipitation and frequent rain. During these periods, rains can be more intense or prolonged.

The period from January to March is distinguished by the lowest total amount of precipitation – an average of 3 mm per month. However, despite this, the number of days with precipitation remains high: 17 days in January, 15 in February, and 14 in March. A similar situation is observed in November (4 mm of precipitation and 19 rainy days) and December (4 mm of precipitation and 20 rainy days). This indicates that during these periods, precipitation usually takes the form of frequent but light drizzle or short-lived rain rather than heavy downpours.

Packing Tips

When planning a trip to Banqiao, it is important to consider its subtropical climate with high humidity and frequent precipitation throughout the year. Although the monthly rainfall might seem low, the number of "wet days" is significant, so a light umbrella or a waterproof jacket will be your faithful companions in any season. Also, don't forget comfortable walking shoes, as you will surely want to explore the city on foot.

From May to September, Banqiao is hot and humid, with average temperatures ranging from 24°C to 28°C and maximums that can exceed 30°C. During this period, light, breathable clothing made of natural fabrics, such as T-shirts, shorts, skirts, and sundresses, is preferable. Don't forget sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses to protect against the intense sun. Even in the warm months, a light wrap or cardigan can be useful for air-conditioned indoor spaces.

The winter months, from December to February, bring cooler weather with average temperatures around 15-17°C. Although there is no frost, evenings and mornings can be quite crisp. It is recommended to bring sweaters, a fleece jacket, a light jacket (perhaps windproof), and long trousers. The principle of layering clothing will be especially useful, allowing you to adapt to temperature changes throughout the day and between outdoors and indoors. In the transitional seasons (March-April and October-November), the weather is mild, and a layered approach will also help: T-shirts, light jumpers, and a jacket.
