You can reach this destination in various ways: by using local air services, regional buses, or by taking an exciting journey by car.

Contrary to popular belief, Alamosa has its own regional airport, San Luis Valley Regional Airport (ALS), which receives regular flights from Denver, ensuring a fast connection to the outside world. This is the most convenient way to find yourself in the heart of the valley, bypassing long overland transfers.

Alternatively, many tourists choose to fly to neighbouring cities to continue their journey by land. The nearest hubs are Pueblo (142 km) and Gunnison (151 km). Also, the airport in the city of Colorado Springs, located 177 km away, remains a popular option, offering a wider range of flight connections.

There is no direct passenger rail service to the city of Alamosa, as there is no active train station within the city itself. The nearest station of the national Amtrak network is located in the city of Trinidad, which would require a further transfer by car or bus.

For travellers wishing to include a train ride in their itinerary, it is most logical to reach the state's major transport hubs, such as Colorado Springs or Pueblo (where Amtrak connecting buses operate), and continue the journey from there in a rented car. Travelling by car is perhaps the most picturesque and fastest way to get to the city of Alamosa. The route from the city of Pueblo, about 195 km long, will take just 2 hours, revealing views of the changing landscapes of Colorado. The road from Gunnison (197 km) will require approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes of travel time.

Departing from the city of Colorado Springs, you will cover 265 km in about 2.5 hours. Roads in this direction are generally in excellent condition, making the road trip comfortable and untiring.

1. Clothing and Gear. The weather here is changeable, and temperature fluctuations between day and night are significant. Bring layered clothing, a windbreaker, and comfortable hiking shoes.
