The park is famous for its large-scale structures: there are majestic castles, pirate ships ready to sail, and even a rocket for future astronauts. The area is designed with a focus on safety and variety: from the special Tot Lot for the youngest visitors to complex mazes and tunnels for older children. Surrounded by picturesque mountain views, the park is an ideal spot for family recreation.

It is important to note that the attraction is currently undergoing a rebirth. A major renovation, which began in late 2024, promises to make the park even more inclusive and high-tech. The park's new look, expected to debut in spring 2025, will include modern ziplines and new play modules, while carefully preserving beloved features like the dinosaur dig zone.

What to Do

In this park, every child will find something to enjoy, whether they are playing a brave captain on a pirate ship or an explorer of distant planets inside the play rocket. Children can spend hours climbing multi-level structures, sliding down various slides, crossing bridges, and hiding in winding tunnels. For fans of history’s mysteries, there is a special dinosaur dig zone, where you can feel like a real paleontologist.

Adults won't be left out either: the park is situated on an elevation offering stunning views of the mountains and cityscapes. It is a wonderful place to relax and watch the kids play, especially in the glow of the setting sun. For those who prefer active family recreation, there are walking trails and an outdoor amphitheater that often serves as a stage for impromptu performances.

Once the current renovation is complete, Park Discovery will offer even more fun: modern spinning attractions, a double zipline (one of which will be ADA-accessible), and an updated musical-instrumental zone. This space is perfect for sparking the imagination through play, offering interactive elements and themed areas for every taste.

Getting There

Finding this "secret" getaway is easy if you know the right way to go. Park Discovery is situated on a hill behind the Iron County School District building. If you are traveling on I-15, take Exit 57 and head west. Then, turn right onto Royal Hunte Drive and head up the hill—the park will be on your left.

For those traveling by car, there is convenient parking right at the entrance. If you happen to pass Cedar Middle School, you've missed your turn and should head back. A scenic path leads from the entrance around the administrative building to the play area itself.

Public transportation is limited in this part of the city, so taxi or a rental car is the most comfortable way to get there. The drive from the city center takes only a few minutes, rewarding you not only with fun activities but also with beautiful panoramic views of the surroundings.

History & Facts

The history of this place is truly inspiring, as Park Discovery is the result of a community-wide effort. It opened in 2001, with local children participating in the design of the project. Residents donated money and building materials to create a unique space for the next generation to play and discover.

For decades, the park remained a beloved local treasure; however, the wooden structures eventually began to show wear. To preserve the spirit of the site, in December 2024, city authorities and the RAP Tax committee allocated funds for a major renovation. Modern materials, such as durable Trex composite, will replace the old wood, making the play area more durable and safer.

An important part of the reconstruction project will be the creation of a memorial wall, which will honor the names of the original sponsors and volunteers who built the park at the turn of the millennium. This way, the updated site will maintain its connection between generations. The park perfectly complements the region's cultural landscape, located near historical museums dedicated to the pioneer era.

Time Needed

To allow children enough time to try all the slides, peek into every secret corner of the "pirate ship," and explore the "dig zone," we recommend setting aside 1 to 3 hours. This is plenty of time for active play and a short family break in the fresh air.

If you plan to have a picnic and enjoy the views of the mountains and the city at sunset, you could easily spend half a day here. The park is a great place to take a break from a busy sightseeing schedule and let younger travelers burn off energy in a safe and creative environment.

Working Hours

Typically, Park Discovery welcomes guests daily from 6:30 AM to 8:30 PM. This allows you to plan your visit for either early morning or the evening to enjoy the beautiful lighting at sunset.

However, please keep in mind that due to major infrastructure updates, the site may be temporarily closed until spring 2025. Be sure to check the city's official website before your trip to confirm the current access status of the playground.
