History & Facts

The history of the Young At Art Museum began in 1987, when Esther and Mindy Shrago founded it as a "museum without walls." The project's original goal was to provide art education to children and families in South Florida through outreach programs, literally bringing art to their doorstep.

The museum found its first permanent home in 1989 in a small space in Plantation. As its popularity grew, the organization expanded: it moved to the city of Davie in 1998, and in 2012, it opened the doors of an impressive modern facility spanning over 5,000 square meters. This building earned a LEED Gold certification for sustainability and was named one of the region's most significant cultural initiatives by the Knight Foundation.

In 2021, the museum turned a new page in its history by moving to the Broward Mall space. Despite the change of locations, the Young At Art Museum remains true to its mission—filling the gap in creative education in schools and serving as an inclusive hub where art meets play for millions of visitors from around the world.
